For example, Northwest Florida can never compete with Southeast Florida based on population density. It’s just a numbers game. The best players will gravitate to the best programs in most parts of the state and especially in S. Fla. There are many times more good players in Southeast Florida then in Northwest Florida simply due to population. It doesn’t mean that NW has bad players. It just means it has a much smaller population to draw from.

But Miami has always had more population than Pensacola and the panhandle in general, but the panhandle used to DOG WALK the Southern part of the state back in the 80’s and early 90’s. 
 

If you look at the title winners from 1980-1995 it’s eye popping how many panhandle and north FL teams have titles. And Miami/Broward had more population the entire time. 
 

the main difference now is the football players in the South are just better.
