  3. I’m gonna throw out some teams and let’s see if you ever heard of them before. If you have, please give a backstory if possible
  4. Belle Glade Rams was a separate team from Glades Central. Belle Glade High and Lakeshore High merged to form GC
  5. In the early 70’s the Turkey Creek Gobblers, Pinecrest Pilots and Marshall High all merged with Plant City and they were called the Raiders ever since. before that they were called the Plant City Planters. Lol
  6. Anyone know any old school nicknames for mascots in Florida? For example, from 1924-1953 the Okeechobee Brahmans were called the “Catfish” Lol. recently the Dixie Hollins Rebels changed their name to the Hollin Royals.
  7. Heard you guys are playing a team that just played their first year of varsity football last year.
  8. That’s the scumbag county AD for Hillsboroughs fault
  9. Cocoa, Melbourne and Titusville all started playing football in the 20’s and were the only show in Brevard for the longest. So I’m sure those were all huge rivals for the better part of a few decades
  10. Isn’t Taylor County the main rival to Madison? Real question
  11. Plant and Hillsborough was the County game of the year for decades. But when Callahan got to Armwood and Weiner got to Plant, that was THE game in Hillsborough for a better part of 15 years or so. The fact that those 2 teams were the best in Hillsborough every year for years made it the can’t miss game in the Tampa area. So I know Hillsborough is the ancient rival, and Robinson is the backyard right up the street South Tampa rival, but wouldn’t Armwood be considered the top rival at least during that time?
  12. For example, Manatee has rivals in Southeast, Palmetto, and Sarasota. And to an extent Venice. But who is their top rival of them all!? And why? Manatee has been playing Palmetto and Sarasota since the 20’s. Back when they were Bradenton High. They have played Sarasota more times throughout the years, but Palmetto and Bradenton merged to make Manatee County High. When they merged Palmetto stopped playing football for 10 years. Sarasota was a natural rival because there was no other big teams in the area during that time. Sarasota and Bradenton had to head to Tampa to find opponents. There was no Southeast, Bayshore, Booker, Venice, etc etc. They were the top 2 teams in the area for a while. Palmetto was like the little brother more on par with Arcadia, Wauchula, Punta Gorda etc. When Southeast came along, they started play Manatee and Palmetto almost annually. Some would say Southeast is both their main rivals. I was wondering if anyone from that area could shine a light on what’s the current outlook for rivalry games down there
  13. Some teams have one true rival like Hardee/Desoto. But some teams have multiple rivals. Some are based on history and some are based on proximity. I was curious to know if anyone close to any programs could explain the method behind their top rivals?
  14. Like I said. The terms metro, suburban and rural are words to describe areas of the state. When you separate teams by area and say they can only play other specific areas exclusively then by definition that is not describing the entire state. By definition these will now be “area championships” not “state” championships.
  15. The SSAC has released the teams for the conference and it apprears that 3 teams will be making their 11 man varsity debut. Riverside Christian and Sarasota Christian who have been mentioned and a new one called Tradition Prep who appears to be from Port St Lucie
  16. Why is Madison County being discussed for a whole page in a new team thread? Did that Charter school finally get the helmets and pads that were on 10 year back order??
  17. The only changes with the new system is the teams that were losing in the 3rd and 4th round will now be “state” champs State being in parentheses because you can’t call it that anymore. By definition they will be area championships.
  18. Beachside Bridge Prep Village Destin Charter Sarasota Christian Riverside Christian Tradition Prep Impact Christian Roar Prep Vocational
  19. Yeah. Stupid name. They aren’t even by the beach. And it’s so generic. Pretty lame and cliche. Tell them to go try again
  20. Looks like there are 2 other teams I found playing varsity football for the first time coming up Riverside Christian in Trenton and Sarasota Christian
  21. He will have success because he will play top teams and create a lot of buzz around the program. He will attract talent from around the area. Kids are gonna want to play for him. Most Georgia teams are afraid of competition. Especially when choosing out of state opponents. If he isn’t handcuffed by the admin and board members he will do really well.
  22. It’s no coincidence that Osceola County has like 8 high schools and 7 of them are HOT GARBAGE!!!!!
  23. The funny thing is you couldn’t even call them state championships anymore. You would have to call them the Metro and Suburban champ. Kinda like the Tri-County champs during the Covid year in South Florida
  24. Wait so the main argument is to water down the classes so more teams that weren’t very good have a better chance of winning? So they don’t have to get better, you just change the rules where it appears they do. that’s the most ass backwards logic I’ve ever heard. The problem isn’t metro, suburban, public or private. The problem is coaching and staff pay because with the lack of money and resources there is extremely high turnover which makes it extremely difficult to build and maintain a quality football program. watering down the classes even more to make one or two more teams feel good about winning some participation trophy is definitely not the answer
