You are probably on to something as when he left Viera for the AD job at Toho they started getting a few key transfers which enabled them to get into the playoffs within the first 3 or so yeas of existence.  Once he left as well as his HC things at Toho quickly fell apart.

I wish more teams that have no shot at a state title would join this league. That way they can consolidate classes. There are about 100 teams that would fare better in a league like this

With 6 playoff games you can drop the regular season to 9, or keep it the same. Texas plays 6 playoff games.

The thing about the FHSAA is the are NEVER gonna make a move that decreases the gate money. That’s why we have 9 classes now. If they chopped it down to 5 as it should be, that gate money from 4 watered down playoff brackets gone. And that ain’t gonna happen.

Right!  Competitive advantage is blown to bits the second a smaller school defeats a larger.  If you want "TRUE" competitive advantage, that should be proven against the entire state, not just pockets.  This whole metro/sub division is a travesty and needs to be undone sooner than later.  Go to one damn class or at least reduce the number of classes.  However, isolating areas of the state from one another based on antiquated metrics that are no longer applicable is just stupid.

Provided we can put together another successful season we will be going back into a district after next fall. There was just no point in us being a whipping boy for other teams. As Poinciana has only won 3 district games in the history of the school i believe, dont have my facts in front of me

I was at that game. Toho was honestly outplayed. The score would have been worse if Celebration didnt have their best receivers ejected for being stupid. Upset, yes. But it wasnt like toho was missing players or  made 1 bad mistake.
We have played Foundation 2 times since I have been at this school.  We lost both games 2017 22-21, 2021 52-0. But I totally agree with your assessment of them.

I love the idea. Texas does something similar at their top classes but they determine it by enrollment after they finish in the district race.

I believe they still do it. They take the top 4 teams in the district and send the 2 with the largest enrollments to the Division 1 bracket and the 2 smallest enrollments to the D2 one.

So the idea is similar. And I think it’s a great idea. Some teams might intentionally lose the district so they can play in the bush leagues. Lol.

I think the issue is you shouldn’t be playing varsity football if you are losing by 70-100 points. Obviously it’s not for you. JV or 6/7/8 man football seems more appropriate.

Ask yourself what can you do in society that you fail that spectacularly, and continue to go at it? That’s like getting all F’s on a report card.

i actually find it a huge waste of time when you have these teams playing 11 man varsity football that look so incompetent it actually looks disrespectful to the game. It makes the game worse. You should have to be able to at least do your job at the most basic level to remain employed.

Here’s my story. My kids go to a small K-8 school. All the sports are 5th-8th coed. I coach the track and flag football teams.
So this year we went to a 7on7 flag tournament in Orlando and we’re much better than everyone. The first game we won 47-0. We were about to play a team that was so bad I actually left my 2 best players out because they were so outmanned and we still won 38-0.

These are all Christian schools and one of the refs was a pastor in Sarasota and asked my players to go easy on the team we were about the play and they looked at him sideways and said “No! We came to win!!”
We won the tournament pretty easily and after that pastor and my AD came up to me and told me we were running the score up and not playing with Christian principles. I told them how can I hold practice, teach the kids to play the right way, give 110 percent effort, correct the mistakes and get better, then come game time go pretend you are handicap because your opponent doesn’t know how to compete?

They said when you embarrass these kids they are not having any fun I said you have fun by winning! And I said when you beat these teams it actually helps them go 2 ways. Give up football because it’s obviously not for you, OR use it as motivation to get better and try your hardest to improve at the game you love.
Bottom line is I can’t handicap myself because you are incompetent

This topic didn't receive much attention, but after thinking about it, this is a no-brainer.  If a combined Top 10 of 1S and 1R was compiled using the end-of-season Power Rankings, it would look like this:
    1) Hawthorne (1R)
    2) Pahokee (1R)
    3) North Florida Christian (1S)
    4) First Baptist Academy (1S)
    5) Evangelical Christian (1S)
    6) Northview (1R)
    7) Union County (1R)
    8) Chiefland (1R)
    9) Chipley (1R)
    10) Trinity Catholic (1S)
The average Power Ranking of the 25 teams in 1S is 0.427.  The average Power Ranking of the 36 teams in 1R is 0.387.  Simply put, the relative top-to-bottom strength of 1S and 1R is very similar.  Finally, it has been stated that the FHSAA cannot sanction separate public-private classifications, but 1S and 1M are essentially private classifications, and 1R is a public classification.  Combine 1S and 1R and you have a 61-team division.  One less classification (down to 8!).  This is an idea whose time has come.  Excellent call, nolebull.

Was most definitely shady. Hated how they were throwing it out there on the national board. Yea I get they raised funds but they could've easily scheduled a different team and used a percentage of the gate as funds to help out Dunbar while they recouped or atleast raised funds and sent it down to Dunbar.

That’s cowardice and I wouldn’t want a coach with that kind of chest leading young men who look to them as strong male leaders.

I’m not saying they have never played county teams I’m saying in 2022 it’s just kind of weird to not play one team in a 10 game schedule that’s from your own county. Especially with 7 other teams. This isn’t some county with 1 or 2 teams that are different in size and/or quality like Columbia and Fort White.
And OTC isn’t some juggernaut that the publics have no shot against. I would think NM and Vanguard could have been slightly favorites.

it sounds like you are saying it’s just a coincidence for 2022

Tried to give everyone love. Lol. I do research around the state and am currently updating the records with the 2022 results. I’m doing Marion County right now and that’s how I noticed OTC not playing any county teams but noticed everyone else playing each other.

    Some good Marion County history
Ocala High was one of the first football teams in the state with records dating back to 1907 as first fielding a team. 1905 was the first ever year of HSFB in the state. They were called the Wildcats and turned into Forest High in 1970, the same year Vanguard first opened. Ocala changed their name to Forest after desegregation. The Marion County school board decided that they wanted Forest and Vanguard to start on equal footing. So technically Forest would carry all of Ocala High’s past records
