MaxPreps is a big mess.

Here's an example....

• Palmetto Ridge has both Hardee and Lake Gibson scheduled for September 16 on MaxPreps.

• Lake Gibson has both Lee County GA and Palmetto Ridge scheduled for September 16 on MaxPreps.

• Lee County GA has both Lake Gibson and North Miami Beach scheduled for September 16 on MaxPreps.

And that's not all, I've seen a lot of mistakes on other teams' schedules on MaxPreps as well. Also there's still a lot of teams who have incomplete schedules on MaxPreps even though the start of the regular season is about 6 or 7 weeks away.

In all fairness a lot of this comes from whoever puts the info in

Just like some teams put JV games and rosters with the varsity or put preseason games down as regular season games on the schedule which messes it up across the board

Didn’t the FHSAA punt some responsibility to maxpreps?

I guess the incompetent roll together heavy on this one.

They made it mandatory for teams to put info into MaxPreps but some teams still do it incorrectly or don't do it at all

There is also the aspect of the postseason rankings being done by MaxPreps because people whined about the RPI and point system before it when in reality a few simple fixes could have corrected the problem

Depending on a database that is not accurate and is not properly maintained to get rankings is absurd in the extreme. If MaxPreps is compensated for what they are doing, they should install adequate controls over the process and there should be rules in place to penalize habitual offenders.

If MaxPreps finds it to be not worth their while to do their assigned task, they should step aside.

I think some of the teams mean well, but are not sure what does and doesn't go on the schedule. Perhaps if MaxPreps  would send out some guidelines, i.e., don't post Spring games, or Kickoff classics on the schedule, it might cut down on on some of the erroneous information. Maybe the AD needs to sign off on the schedule too.

I understand that this will not fix all of the ills, but it might be a good start

As the governing body for high school athletics, the FHSAA should not have shifted duties to a 3rd party service when it has the capabilities to manage those functions.

  • Create a member portal where AD's are responsible for the accuracy of team schedules.  Oh wait! The FHSAA already has a member portal.
  • Create a database that contains team schedules for each sport and use that to cross reference and validate scheduled events.  In other words, Team A is scheduled to play Team B on Friday.  If Team A enters a date of Thursday while Team B accurately selects Friday, that event is flagged and notifications to confirm and correct are sent.
  • Provide a customer facing portal to us (Parents, students, alumni, media, colleges) in which we don't have to guess or get half-assed, erroneous information regarding team schedules.

There are only 2 reasons I can think of as to why this has not/will not happen:

  1. Money  - nothing is free.  Even so, there are relatively inexpensive options to implement and maintain.  I know middle schoolers that can hook this up in a day.
  2. Lack of interest - Self-explanatory

The bottom line is the year is 2022.  TOTALY UNACCEPTABLE!

Maxpreps is usually synced up with each school's Hudl account.  It gets messy when coaches are not keeping their schedules updated in Hudl when they make changes and some times it takes a while for Maxpreps to sync back up with Hudl after changes are made.

Most of the time Maxpreps, Head Coaches and Hudl get their crap together mid August and everything is fine....

Well what people should also keep in mind is if you have a verified MaxPreps account (I actually have one despite not being a coach) you can enter scores and while I never actually attempt to do so I have seen some scores over the years Incorrect that if used in an algorithm and put in by someone who doesn't know what they are doing we will see more issues arise

I get that coaches and ADs have much more important work to do than spend a bunch of time on MaxPreps but that becomes an issue when one coach not wanting to do it and decides to rush it or delegate it to someone else it has an impact on another teams ranking I think that is something that exposes an overall flaw in the system to begin with

At least with RPI and point system all the FHSAA has to know is who won or lost a game to correctly input it but it feels like FHSAA is delegating to MaxPreps so they don't have to do the work even if it comes at the expense of other teams

That's true but I think the concern is more about those times when it doesn't happen

I still personally feel that the point system and RPI both respectively could have worked if a few changes were made to the postseason and classification breakdown (metro suburban is one of those fixes) another would have been either expanding some regions or cutting classes down to 2 regions in each class to cut down on the regions where 2/3 of the teams made the playoffs which would have prevented several first and second round blowouts

But I am willing to give it a year before fully giving up on it but it did feel like a change that kicks the real issue further down the road

Number 1 risk of outsourcing is that a third party may not take the same level of care as someone directly involved in it

Again, that's on the FHSAA and the partnership that was so badly needed, per their public relations specialist:  XTRA POINT: FHSAA and MaxPreps reach much-needed partnership

If anyone can actually find the FHSAA meeting archives that outline this "need", kudos to you!:D

Interesting enough, the article points out that $100 fines could be leveraged against schools that don't maintain accurate score and team information.

Based on the little info I was able to find, the FHSAA is compensated for using MaxPreps, $85,000 a year through June 2022.

FHSAA deal with MaxPreps does not require use of rankings - Article is behind a paywall but if you are quick, you know how to read it.  That's all I'll say.:P

Very true.  To add insult to injury, that 3rd party which I refuse to name again doesn't have to care because they are willing to pay for and get what they wanted on day 1: EXCLUSIVE EXPOSURE TO THE FLORIDA MARKET!

Does anyone think the FHSAA is going to cancel that deal?

    • Complaining about North Florida slappies losing to South Florida powers is like someone graduating high school complaining that companies are only hiring college graduates and not them. And then a company saying ok to make it fair, we will open division and only hire high school graduates.
    • First I want to express my apologies for my absence the last few months. Without going into much detail I have had some personal life struggles I have been dealing with on top of figuring out the direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com in. Things have finally settled out some over the last few weeks although I am not completely out of the woods just yet. Some of the decisions about what direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com have been forming over this time while I went through things. Part of me wondered if it was time to go, but really it is not at all. Thankfully, a loyal supporter near me in Gainesville decided to put their mouth where their money is and did a little investing and today FloridaHSFootball.com launched its first-ever Mobile App. With that said it comes with the sunset of the MVP Membership Subscriptions and thus FloridaHSFootball.com will be 100% free for the first time in a while. This comes as needing to get the clearances with Apple and Google and the current subscription platform we have is not syncing with Apple's system nor with the App itself. Its best we go in this direction to grow fans again and being able to put them facing forward with an app on their phone going forward. Here are the download links for the apps: iOS (Apple): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/floridahsfootball-com/id6477621728 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floridahsfootball.app&hl=en_US&gl=US   For now the forums will not be available directly in the app. At some point I maybe looking at changing the whole forum software that could eventually integrate into the app. It will be a while before this happens so things will go on as they are here.   I also apologize for any of the spam and troll accounts that have managed to find their way around the security protocols in setting up new accounts. It seems every day these things find ways to pass through control systems. I am going to be looking at getting this solved and will keep an eye on things here as we go along.   Please feel free to reach out to me if you all need anything, want to chat or have any suggestions.   -- Josh
