Osceola defeats Treasure Coast 14-5

In a defensive struggle Osceola did enough to defeat Treasure Coast in a slugfest by the score of 14-5.  They were able to run the ball better against our defensive front than I thought they would but despite giving up some yards they never got into the end zone.  Their initial drive was helped by several offside penalties we committed early to keep the chains moving and got into field goal range and hit it.   On the ensuing kickoff our sophomore star RB Taevion Swint return it for about a  90 yard TD.   Later in the 2nd quarter we put together another good drive and Taevion punched in his second TD.  They got a safety when their punt pinned us at our 1 yard line for the other 2 points.  We only had one good drive in the second half and should have scored our 3rd TD on a short slant, but our receiver bobbled the ball and allowed the defender to strip it from him for an INT in the end zone.  No more scoring in the second half.  Offensively we were inconsistent throughout the game but I think their defense had alot to do with that.  It was your typical UGLY WIN, but a win nevertheless against a team most on this forum picked to win the game against us.  QB position still in flux as both were given opportunities throughout the game to earn the job and neither seemed to be the clear winner. On to the next game against a strong Sanford Seminole team that some didn't feel would dominate Sarasota Riverview but simply blow them out 48-0.

Congrats on a great win. The Darters were lucky that lightening prevented last week's game from happening.

Don't know as it would have been similar to the game tonight with 2 teams that need to establish the run which is their strength against 2 stout defenses.  I thought it was a toss up.   Our O-line performance was spotty tonight although I have confidence they will continue to gel and improve game by game.   Ocoee will surprise some people as they have re-loaded pretty well with some quality players.

Ocoee is a decent team with some veteran starters and solid transfers. But aside from our defense which played well, we made a lot of miscues on offense and special teams. To be relevant this year, the team will have to improve a lot over the next two to three games.

What were the weather/field conditions like?

For the Apopka game, there was rain in the first quarter and a wet field thereafter. It did not help that this was our first game in forever when we ran no single wing plays at all.

Our receivers dropped at least 10 passes, some of which should have been caught. A wet ball and getting familiar with a new offensive playbook was too much to overcome. I suppose it will take some time for the offense to gel.

Our game was played under similar weather conditions which I think also limited the passing game, though both of the teams rely on the run attack.  Regardless, our defense as usual was our main calling card and I wanted to highlight the outstanding play of our 4* DL #55 John Walker.  Just confirmed his stat line for this ball game and he finished with 5 solo + 7 assists for a total of 12 tackles.  Those are LB or Edge stats, so yes I continue to believe he is a 5*.  If UCF can continue to recruit players like him and Kaven Call from your school they also can have a defense they can rely on in the coming years.
