6A Palm Beach Dwyer (Palm Beach public) WINNER

5A Miami Belen Jesuit (Dade private) WINNER

4A Hialeah Mater Lakes (Dade private) WINNER

3A Miami Riviera Prep (Dade private) WINNER

2A Weston Sagemont (Dade private) WINNER

How many Suburban schools even made the Elite 8?
7A: Winter Haven?
6A: Ponte Vedra
6A: Gainesville
6A: Charlotte
6A: Lakeland
5A: Columbia
5A: Baron Collier
4A: Gateway
4A: Santa Fe
4A: The Villages Charter
3A: Florida High
2A: Victory Christian

I cannot stress this enough, the difference is not metro vs suburban or even private vs public (more of the latter than the former). The difference is the haves and have nots. Put all the haves together, put all the have nots together, let them compete. Apply to all team sports.

Boys Soccer: 3 Suburban and 3 Metro
East Ridge (Suburban)
Viera (Suburban)
American Heritage (Plantation) (Metro)
Gulliver Prep (Metro)
Trinity Prep (Metro)
Pine School (Suburban - Martin County)

Girls Soccer: 4 suburban vs 2 metro
Bartram Trail (Suburban)
Gulf Breeze (Suburban)
American Heritage (Metro)
Bishop Moore (Metro)
Montverde Academy (Suburban)
Lakeland Christian (SUburban)

How many games did you attend in Lakeland this week?

I saw the Daytona Mainland girls win the 5A state championship on February 25, the Mainland boys 5A semi-final, Belen Jesuit's win over Orlando Jones in the other semi on March 2nd, and my Mainland Buc boys loss in the 5A final March 4th. The only minor complaint I have is missing out on "FRED'S"  for lunch this year.  As for the I-4 commute (3 times in 8 days) what a F' n nightmare !

Come on Gatorman, to leave my Bucs off the "Suburban" list is a Freudian slip at best, and major criminality at it's worst. Daytona Beach Mainland made three finals this school year (football, girls and boys basketball) ...you better recognize.

There's your brand new Mainland trophy Dan.  Enjoy!  Regarding I-4, just wait until construction starts up again in Polk County, smh.

Here's my point.

Those metro schools you salivate over are glorified AAU travel teams. And how do I know this?

I have been in that arena. I coached against guys named Lebron, Telfair, Big Baby Davis, etc.

And I coached guys named Stoudemire right here in Polk.

Those Metro teams have young men that will get "paid" to play this game in the future, heck some are getting paid under the table as we speak.

So while you think it's funny to say the "suburban" schools will stick their tail between their legs and run for cover. It's really not as funny as you think it is. In reality "suburban" Winter Haven should have beat Columbus and the Carlos Boozer money.

With better coaching "suburban" Auburndale wins 5A.

So what's you point ?  You want a Suburban championship like football ?  Well, I don't. Speaking of what we have seen....I saw Winter Haven's Otis Birdsong At Mainland in 1973 (also tackled him on the football field in 1972 at Winter Haven), Orlando Evan's Dr Dunkingstein in 1975, NBA'ers George  Mccloud and Vince Carter as 8th graders, when Barry LarKin's son went head to head against Doc River's son in a big school match up at Lakeland with Dr Phillips and Winter Park going for a title, and also willing to bet seen more double high school semi-finals (4 games) in one day "at Lakeland "   than you , as a home boy, have !!  To each his own, we're just talking opinions and trash here, right.

This is literally the same thinking that divided football. These are literal kids bra, if winter haven can come within 2 they could easily win But they didnt & if they did you wouldn't be on this thread crying about "Carlos boozer money". This is why south florida don't claim the state. Yall too soft

It's real easy to sit behind a computer screen and call someone soft.

I don't mean no disrespect to you, it's just that way of thinking is like you blaming kids for being good at what they love just because they better than the rest. You would think losing would inspire coach's and players and parents to strive for better but it's more complaining than anything.

    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
