BREAKING: FHSAA announces states to stay in Orlando, be played in single weekend

Isn't that what Daytona wanted to do first. If so the process is shady.

The FHSAA has stated from the beginning that they were really interested in doing a single weekend of games before they even accepted bids.

Orlando had agreed to do two weeks in 2016, and one weekend in both 2017 and 2018. However, with the ACC moving its conference championship from Charlotte to Orlando this season, the FHSAA had to move to one weekend this season as well.

The process is not shady. Orlando and Daytona were the only ones to bid and Daytona made outrageous demands that the FHSAA simply was not going to meet because the demands were silly, unnecessary and disrespectful.

If any group of people is shady, I would perhaps argue that whoever was representing the City of Daytona is the shady group in this ordeal.

What were their demands?

For those who were at the track & field championships this year - one day event at IMG - we know how AWFUL this will be.  You will be run into the stadium & run out, like on an assembly line.  The T&F meet was just terrible....congrats kid, now get out of the way, we have another race to run.  Officials screaming at these athletes (who earned the right to shine in a state competition) to hurry up, etc.

Earning the right to play for a state championship will be seriously cheapened by the practice of this idea.

I'm not going to get into specifics, because I don't think the specific demands are meant to be, or are, publicly known at this time.

However, I will say that had Daytona mentioned any of these in the bidding process, they would not have won the bid. And I'm sure they knew that as well and timed when they told the FHSAA of what they wanted so that the FHSAA was informed about it after awarding Daytona the bid.

Daytona was given a great opportunity, but because of poor decision making -- and perhaps even other "shady" motives -- they lost the opportunity.

Orlando will host states for 2016-2018 and then the series will likely go up for bidding again. Orlando and Boca Raton (FAU) will almost certainly be the two finalists in 2019.

I am curious as to what those demands were too.  LIke did they require nightly allowances for all officials to Biggins or Lollipops?

Wait did they run all classes on the same day?  that makes absolutely no sense.

Huffy -  I know where you are coming from on this, but comparing T&F to football is not really a good apples to apple comparison for this situation.

When the FHSAA put the RFP out for bids, it included details of how the times would work over a three-day span, something we were going to get anyways in 2017 and 2018, but we are getting it a year sooner.

Thursday

3:00 pm

7:30 pm

Friday

11:00 am

3:00 pm

7:30 pm

Saturday

11:00 am

3:00 pm

7:30 pm

I could possibly see them adjust this to where the morning game is a 10:00 am start and the night game on each night be an 8:00 pm game, but we are likely to see these times.

Also, I want to show you all what are neighbors do as well...what the FHSAA is doing is not far-fetched at all.

Georgia (GHSA)

8 state championship games over two days (Dec. 9-10)

Schedule as follows

Friday

10:00 am

1:00 pm

4:30 pm

8:00 pm

Saturday

10:00 am

1:00 pm

4:30 pm

8:00 pm

Alabama (AHSAA)

7 games over three days (Nov. 30-Dec 2.)

Wednesday

1 game, plus 1 unified sports game

3:30 pm (unified)

7:00 pm

Thursday

3 games

11:00 am

3:00 pm

7:00 pm

Friday

3 games

11:00 am

3:00 pm

7:00 pm

To be fair after looking at this the FHSAA is giving extra time already built into this for our teams.

Want to go one better? Let's look at Texas

12 games over 4 days (Dec 14-Dec 18)

Wednesday

4:00 pm

7:00 pm

Thursday

10:00 am

1:00 pm

5:00 pm

8:00 pm

Friday

12:00 pm

4:00 pm

8:00 pm

Saturday

12:00 pm

4:00 pm

8:00 pm

So before anyone else complains, look at our neighboring states and look at what Texas does as well. It not far fetched. We are actually getting in line with the rest of the powers in how things are done and should be done.

For fans, this should be welcomed, instead of having to drive up two separate weekends to see Booker T. Washington and Miami Central play, you might actually get to see them play on the same weekend now and possibly in back to back games...talk about a fan's dream? Yes, it could happen.

Was UCF not allowed to bid because the Citrus Bowl did? Would think UCF would jump all over this.

Your wrong about 1A, 1A class will more than triple 2A  and have more fans than 3A and 4A . The 1A game needs to be a Friday night game

1A 5 Year Average: 2588

2A 5 Year Average: 1375

3A 5 Year Average: 2016

4A 5 Year Average: 2544

Your estimations are slightly off. But the attendance also greatly depends on where the schools playing are from. For example, look when Cocoa made the 4A Championship(3A in 2008, 2A in 2009-2010) the attendances were 3333, 6899, and 7013; the last 2 being the 2nd most out of all the games each year.

    • I was actually itching to treat some wager some money on some sports matches that are happening above-board now. I wanted to let you guys identify that I did spot what I ruminate on to be the kindest site in the USA. If you fall short of to get in on the spirit, check it out-moded: https://pokeronline.guru/online-gambling/
    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
