I would say on the defensive end , especially maybe the corner back end. Haven’t seen Lakeland play lately. But I do knew a few years back when they were really really good they hosted Carol City in back to back years I believe and both years they couldn’t contain the speed of carol city and they were getting bombed all over the field. And if I’m not mistake. Carol city put over 40 both times

I have nothing against Lakeland so I actually hope it’s a good game & if Lakeland was to win it would most def shock the nation.

you know your naughts so maybe you can educate me what do you guys bring in this year and if you guys were to win this weekend what area of your team do you believe would be the reason why.

2014 CC 44-34 Lakeland

2015 CC 38-7 Lakeland.  Same season CC defeated LG 14-6 for the title

Carol City beat Lakeland 44-34 in 2015, and 38-7 in 2016. Bad nights in Bryant Stadium to be sure, and hats off to the Chiefs. Back in those seasons, Lakeland also suffered losses to Bartow, Kathleen and Viera. The 'Naughts weren't super powerful in those seasons. But, those games were played *before* school choice dramatically altered rosters starting with the 2017 season. Things haven't been the same since as Lakeland has raided other rosters every year other than the plague year.

IF Lakeland's 2024 team is basically the same type of team as the 2015/16 teams, your pick would be reasonable. Like I said earlier, I can't see into the future. Maybe you're right and this Lakeland team will prove to be about the same as the 2015/16 teams, and thus vastly inferior to every non-2020 Lakeland team since.

As for the backend of the defense, we shall see. That unit has 4* Ole Miss commit Keon Young, who plays 7-on-7 with several Central players/coaches; 3* West Virginia commit Sammy Etienne; 3* USF commit Gillis and a player (Kayvon McKinney) who has eight (8) interceptions in his last 28 quarters of football. Maybe they get torched Friday!

The strength of the defense is speed and quickness. How good is the defense? I have a pretty strong hunch, but will wait to disclose this until Friday ;)

Dang, I guess I should've scrolled down before replying to @THIS_IS_DILLARD :D

Nobody knows the explorers on this board better then you, I agree with you tough schedule. But one thing about your coaching staff, they’re one of the best & always have Columbus prepared.

I see you guys winning this friday 28-20

We pulled it out. With 23 seconds on the clock.

Final was closer to my prediction though: 16-14.

In what can only be described as an U G L Y game, the Spartans and Explorers combined for close to 7,000 yards of total penalties. More undisciplined than usual for a Columbus coached team, but just horrendous for Southridge. Big home crowd for the Spartans and some talent, but shot themselves in the foot much of the time with unforced errors. I don't think we have settled out QB debate exactly, but with Barket driving the offense in the final three minutes the length of the field, I can see him getting the nod for next week's game against Good Counsel.

Defense showed flashes of dominance but way too inconsistent. This can be forgiven this time of year. But I'm not gona lie, we could have lost that game easily. Luckily no one was hurt - but there was cramping all night!

We have work to do.

As to be expected, in regards to the cramping. That’s been happening all cross the state starting last week. These young men have to eat right & understand staying hydrated & conditioned don’t start on game day but also throughout the week.

congrats on the win bro. A ugly win vs a solid team but nonetheless a good win to start the season.

Lakeland and Lake Mary both made statement wins in South Florida tonight. Lakeland pulled off a defensive struggle vs Miami Central while Lake Mary beat Cardinal Gibbons as badly as Armwood beat Norland last week.

Glad to see the I-4 corridor competing with the state powers for a change. The Lake Mary vs Lakeland game at LM is shaping up to be a must see game for Orlando area fans.

Looking forward to how our young secondary holds up against that passing attack of Lake Mary as we have them at their place next week.   As good as our overall defense is, I don't see us giving up 49 points.

Did Osceola play tonight?  If so, what was the score?

Ray, I am not sure about the quality of his receivers this year, but Grubbs is the truth. In 26 seasons he's far and away the best QB prospect I've seen come out of the Orlando area. Barring injury, I believe he will be a first round draft pick in 2028 or 2029.

If he has a good Offensive Line and decent Receivers he can put up 7 TDs on any team on any given night.

Congrats!  Good luck next week against the Rams!

Same to your Naughts, that is a tremendous win vs a Miami Central in their house.  Lots of upsets tonight I thought.

I agree with your assessment of Grubbs and we will need to find ways to pressure him, hit him, knock him down even if it isn't a sack from the edge.  In addition, will need to play mistake free and control clock with our ground attack to limit his possessions.  Will be missing the first few practices next week as I leave to West Palm at the crack of dawn tomorrow and don't return till Wednesday so should see what the defensive coaches have schemed up to accomplish this.  Despite having their RB available, I think they will find it to be tough sledding on the ground if what we showed against Bishop Moore last week and TC this week is any indication.
