Man oh man it’s already week 5 and so far every week has had great matchups, added with some shocking results.

as you all know @Jullian @nolebull813 @Perspective @FBGUY1989 @561_Fan the list is fluid & it changes weekly, depending on what happens on the field. But going into week 5 this would be my top 15 list.

#1. MiAMI NORLAND (3-0) , since their blowout lost against armwood , the Vikings are undefeated & as of right now looking like the team to beat in 4A, & they can solidify that with a win vs Chaminade this week.

#2. MIAMI CENTRAL (3-1) since the rockets lost against Lakeland a few week ago , they have been running teams out of the stadium.

#3. MiAMI NORTHWESTERN (2-2)

#4. ST THOMAS AQUINAS (3-1) The raiders flirted with disaster last week escaping 0-3 western on the road last week by a score of 22-15

#5. CHAMINADE MADONNA - (2-2) With  the starting qb being out for a few weeks, and with the third string actually having time to prepare, the lions have gotten back to that well oiled machine they were before the starting qb injury.

#6. AMERICAN HERITAGE - (2-2) Solid win on the road last week vs a very good Naples team whose very good at home & was held to 3 points.

#7. PLANTATION (4-0) the colonels are very good this year. This team came in this year with little to no recognition, a new coaching staff & a lot of motivation. Their defense is very stout, & their offense is also solid.

#8. DILLARD (3-1) , after a 27-21 lost to #7 (4-0) plantation in week 1, the panthers have been on a rampage going 3-0 since then posting 2 shutouts & outscoring their opponents (147-6).

#9. COLUMBUS (2-2) - the explorers had a solid win last week against their rival palmetto, but they have a short week this week & will play the Miami northwestern bulls on Thursday night.

#10. BLANCHE ELY (3-1) , rivalry aside, I had a chance to see the tigers up close and personal Friday, since Dillard game was on Saturday & the tigers are very thin on the OL & DL , & they just looked overmatched on Friday night.

them beating chaminade was a complete aberration, heavily because the lions lost the head of their offense on the second possession of the game & had to change their entire game plan on the fly. We see how they look now when the 3rd string has a full week to prepare.

on top of that the week after the tigers gave up 20 points to a stranahan team Dillard shut out (44-0) just the week prior.

only for the very next week the tigers found themselves trailing 21-0 in the first qt vs a Atlantic team was ranked under ely in every category. Only for the lead to ballon to 35-7 at halftime. & then pushed to 42-7 30 seconds into the third Qt starting the running clock. Which is why the tigers dropped a couple spots this week.

#11. WEST BROWARD (2-2) the bobcats are putting a lot of folks on notice this year, not sure if they got a new coaching staff or what, but a program that’s never known for football dominance have been putting on an offensive clinic this year , most recently in their upset win over heavily favored gibbons last week Friday, beating the chiefs 43-39

#12. HOMESTEAD (2-2)

#13. Monarch (2-2) - the knights took it on the chin last week vs Seminole , they should bounce back this week vs a inferior opponent.

#14. BOOKER T WASHINGTON - (2-2) a very underwhelming win for the tornadoes last week. I expected a more dominant win.

#15. MIRAMAR (2-2) the patriots again have a very good defense, they play Dillard this week. Should be a very good close game.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Piper (4-0) , Western (0-3), Palmetto (1-2), South dade (1-2), Coconut creek (0-2),

You probably prefer not to get my opinion, but I do tend to be a contrarian.   You rightfully point out that Miramar is ranked  higher (#111) than you (#131) by MaxPreps, I assume so if you beat them that is an accomplishment. Don't know anything about Miramar or Dillard so as I have been clear I tend to question the accuracy of these rankings this early.  At the same time you have moved yourself up in your own rankings beating a bottom dweller, where the same MaxPrep you used in another thread with Darter dropped you -8 spot for that showing last Saturday.  Again, not high on these polls so you could be right and they could be wrong ON A FEW!!.  However, the glaring thing is you rank yourself higher than all the following schools including some honorable mentions and some not even making your poll.  MaxPreps Rankings as of 09/15 ....... Columbus #22, BTW #39, Western #43, Southridge #52, Monarch #58, Miami Palmetto #66, Blanche Ely #76, Monsignor Pace #77, Homestead #82, West Broward #85 and even Miami Edison #91 all teams in the TOP 100.  Most observers would tend to think they couldn't be wrong on every single one of these while you are correct on all of them.  Lastly, the glaring number is all these schools have a positive SOS, usually around +20, while your SOS is -7.  That may be what you are not taking into account when you have beaten the last 3 opponents by a combined score of 147-6.  Not a criticism, simply food for thought.

I’m always open to diff opinions, matter fact I welcome it.

in regards to Miramar to start they’re surprisingly ranked higher then us on maxpreps , but being that I’m from broward I take into account that we have beaten Miramar 5 years in a row, they are 2-2, was shutout against plantation and beat a horrible McArthur team only 28-0

how western is ranked above Dillard on maxpreps with a 0-3 record is even more glaring that maxpreps cannot be trusted most of the times. They don’t see these teams personally everything with them is computer based.

Same with ely, their rankings got trumped up by beating a chaminade team trotting their 3rd string qb out their on the second possession of the game because their starting qb got ruled out with injury. Which caused the lions to strip their entire game plan on the fly.

Ely then proceeds to give up 20 to a stranahan team the very next week , the very same team Dillard shut out 44-0 the week prior.

then ely the very next week (last Friday) at home was down 21-0 to an Atlantic team who ranked below them in every category coming in, trailed 35-7 at the half and then 42-7 30 seconds into the third quarter which further proves that win vs chaminade was a complete aberration and was due more so to the energy of chaminades starting qb.

in regards to homestead, yes they’re 2-2 but they also lost to a palmetto team who is now 1-3 and their only win was against homestead, and homestead also lost to south dade whose only win so far is against homestead. So granted while they’re 2-2 those two loses they took early are still two very bad loses. Which is why they’re ranked but not as high as they started.

in regards to monarch , we beat monarch. Granted it was spring but both teams played their full starters, then as we got to the season monarch played horrible against a very pedestrian peach ridge team out of Ga, went on a bye then lost to Seminole last week to put their record at (1-1)

in regards to western their (0-3) , theirs no moral victories in sports. Your are what your record says you’re which as of right now their (0-3), despite their SOS. If your ranking is #43 in the entire state their is no way you should be (0-3) , you get blown out by AHP, ok cool, AHP is very good.

but you lose at home to a HOOVER team whose way past their glory days when you were double digit faves? That was a terrible lost.

As for Booker T Washington , they’re another team we faced at the beginning of the season at Dillard & we beat them 21-14 with all starters playing.

& also booker t also played a terrible laselle team last week and only won by 15, a very underwhelming victory to say the least with Lakeland coming up this Friday.

so while again the maxpreps rankings are what they’re, many many times over including this year they have proven to be greatly flawed.

is my rankings perfect ? Probably not, but that’s exactly why it’s fluid & constantly changes each week depending on the results on the field.

and after this week gauntlet of great matchups more teams are gonna be move down, move up, or removed all together.

if Dillard loses to Miramar this week, they will most def fall a few notches and Miramar will rise a few. But as of right now Miramar is 0-5 vs Dillard the last 5 years , so this game is way bigger for them then us & would be a statement game for them , but still a solid win on the road for my panthers if we can get it done.

No ranking is perfect, that includes yours. Not PROBABLY not, certainly not.  In your own words you have beaten Miramar 5 years in a row, why would another win not be expected.  It all boils down do you get more love for beating up on chumps (rankings for those 3 teams ... #265, #524, #318) or losing to top ranked teams especially in close games.  Will leave it at that.

Like I said at the Beginning of the season when I started these rankings. It’s not gonna make everyone happy, and it’s not gonna be perfect, being that we all have diff opinions of who should be where.

all I was trying to do in my last post was give you a south Florida insight of why my rankings are the way that they’re for WEEK 5, since you came on the post with maxpreps statistics, when it goes way deeper then that.

I’ve actually seen these teams play in person. Maxpreps again is just computer based there’s no real thought or research that’s done on their behalf to determine who should be ranked where.

thats like me trying to tell you how teams in the Osceola area should be ranked, just because of what maxpreps says. At the end of the day you know your area and the schools in it better then anyone over at maxpreps, whether their rankings reflect it or not.

but as stated from the get go the on field results have been and will continue to speak for themselves, and that’s how we’re gonna leave it.

in regards to your Kowboys I’ve always liked their football program, I know you guys have a tough matchup this week vs jones, Good luck. Hope you guys come out victorious.

Good list. MNW is too high in my opinion. They've played two teams with a pulse and lost both(Venice and Norland). Their QB is very suspect, especially when it matters the most. I watched them in both their loses. They have a tough time stopping the run as well. They have Teddy, but Teddy can't get out there and play either.

You’ve seen them up in person so I’ll take your word , plus you’re from dade so if anybody know you’ll know.

this Thursday should be a great 1 then with them vs Columbus. If they lose that 1 you can potentially see some panic from bulls nation

    • You can make an argument that the Metro /Suburban years were very comparable.  I may be a prisoner of the moment by saying they were the best.  One of my favorite board names is @imjustafan2 because I get into the X’s and the O’s but really I enjoy the whole experience of a high school game.   I really enjoyed the Cardinal Mooney game for reasons I included in my post.  I anticipated Bolles would make a strong comeback but it never materialized. Cardinal Newman upsets Chaminade.  That game wasn’t decided until it ended.     STA took it easy on Lakeland.  Awful game.   West Boca Raton destroys West Broward.  Pretty highly anticipated but was a dud. Raines with the upset of the year.     AHP/Jones game was competitive until late.  Jones made an entertaining comeback only to be squelched in the 4th quarter. Lake Mary/Vero Beach.  Say no more. So from my perspective it was at least one of the best.  I remember many years where you had maybe one competitive game.  If you were lucky you had 2.     From my viewpoint there were 2 historic upsets, the final game ended in a viral play that’s been shared all over the world, a game that was competitive until the 4th quarter, Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota team) and 2 games that were no contests.  So for me but not for others it was a great finals.
    • Appreciate the breakdown by game, I would also like to read your thoughts on the venue. It was about as far south in the state that could hold the event, how was the turnout, how well did they manage the games, perking, ease of entry, concessions? What did you do between games? I have been to several final games in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale and thought the year I went to games in Ft. Lauderdale were run better.
    • MarkECannon, do you think the reason why Cardinal Mooney was able to pass the ball and find open receivers very effectively against the Bolles defense was because the line of scrimmage was dominant, and they were able to protect the passer and give him time to scan the field? Do you think that Lakeland needs to get more of a balanced offense to compete at the State Championship level? Thank you.
    • Does that say anything about coaching to you?
    • Ive already stated the out comes for the Vero and northwestern games went about like watching the NFL....(that not a good thing and for me alittle hard to believe the outcomes were organic) over all attendance was down from last year....for me its was just a Blah type finals.
