To us who didn’t have a dad/father at any time( not in our lives, let alone under our roof), your story leaves us (me) envious…..& at times bitter(even at 67 yrs old). But I had a HS coach that acted like a dad to me. I was in middle school & my future coach walked into my classroom, asked the student in the desk in front of me to get up. He sat in the desk, put his arm on my desk in position to arm wrestle. I was expelled from the school I started in & of course he knew that. He smiled & said to me,”I hear you’re the strongman!” I put up my arm & gave him a match but he put my arm down. He laughed but not at me, then he put his hand on my shoulder that I still feel till this day, & I knew I had a man in my corner! Fast forward: we won the championship my sophomore year with him as head coach. He loved on me with affection, discipline, & covered me. He died 3 years ago. Every year I would go up to visit my mom, I would visit coach for hours. The last time I saw him he was in a hospital bed in his living room, I knew that was the last time I would see him. I prayed with him, thanked him, & told him I loved him. 
when I coached in Broward, I coached(in every way) like him.

Jullian,  thanks so much for sharing..powerful.. besides a great dad I also had a great high school football coach so I was doubly blessed..   RG
