Yeah. Camden County is the worst when it comes to playing bad FL teams. They absolutely refuse to play any good ones at all. The AD straight up said they won’t do it because their region is too tough. And the coach who is from Mainland obviously gets no real say because they are playing 4 more bad FL teams again this year

Aside from the competitive aspect, Georgia teams have no incentive to schedule tough non-region games because state playoff qualification is based solely on head-to-head, round-robin play in 6- to 9-team regions (top 4 teams qualify in each region).  Since Georgia doesn't use silly computer rankings to determine state playoff qualification and seeding like Florida, teams can schedule as tough or easy non-region opponents as they prefer.  It might make sense for Florida teams to schedule tougher non-district opponents for competitive reasons, as well as to improve their FHSAA MaxPreps' strength of schedule component, but since no one really knows what goes into the FHSAA MaxPreps' rankings, we really don't know if tougher scheduling pays off in the end.

Schedules are coming in and I see Northwestern is playing Orange Lutheran. Does anyone have any thoughts on this match up.

IF OLU is precisely identical to last season, and ditto for MNW, the game figures to go down to the wire. But, there's very little chance both teams will be exactly as they were in 2024.

OLU lost a good bit off last year's team. But, they figure to have a bunch of really good big guys in the trenches. They'll probably be a little down from 2024, but not much.

MNW looks like the hottest program in Dade, and seems to have gotten a lot of transfers. I think most in Dade think the Bulls will be better, and the clear #1 team in Dade to start the season. Chaminade is probably the only team that is eligible for playoffs that might get the nod over MNW in the entire state.

Dade county teams have fared relatively poorly against west coast teams over the years. MNW was beaten decisively in Florida by Long Beach Poly in 2008. Even though nolebull claims Poly traveled 3,000 miles for a simple, insignificant scrimmage, the fact is both teams played to win and Poly dominated the trenches. MNW also was blown out by Chandler Arizona, 55-20, after having won the 2017 state title with wins over Central, Carol City and Armwood. And I watched in person as St. John Bosco carved up Central in Bellflower, CA in 2021. (The Rockets have fared pretty well against Bishop Gorman, with one win and two close losses.)

I think they will win. I won't predict a score but I see the Bulls winning and games like this helps them. You see they beat Raines in the state game 41-0 and Raines came in undefeated. Raines alumni and community are still in disbelief but when you don't strengthen up your schedule this is your outcome. And I get the level of talent in Jacksonville isn't as good as other parts of FL but come on now.

True but I also think that part of Florida just don’t fare well vs south fl at all regardless of who they play in the regular season.

notice that part of the state only see championships when they do the rural & metro split ups.

2006 and 2007 teams were way better than the 2008 Northwestern team and they had Jacory Harris as quarterback. Yes in 2008 they had Teddy and the following years but he never won a state title with the Bulls. 2017 was a pretty good year and they won states which started the 3-peat. 2017, 2018 and 2019. Northwestern out of state record is 1-3. Again Northwestern had its share of good seasons and bad but one thing for certain is they will never back down from tough competition.

OOS Record

2007 29-21 against Southlake Carroll (won)

2008 29-7 against Long Beach Poly (Lost)

2017 55-20 against Chandler (Lost)

2019 48-21 against Lowndes (Lost)

MNW also got blown out by Lowndes. The biggest difference is coaching and discipline. And executing the fundamentals. It sounds cliche, but Florida is a very raw and athletic state, whereas the other states have more resources to field more complete teams. That’s why they struggle with good OOS teams. Because not only do those teams have athletes, but they have the coaching and discipline to go with it. You aren’t gonna see those teams committing 20 penalties per game

If I’m not mistaken didn’t the bulls travel to Lowndes like 2 or 3 str8 years in like 18-20 , and I think two of those games were blowouts by Lowndes and one of them went down to the wire.

I could be wrong tho.

You basically just answered my post below b4 I knew you even posted this lol. So I was right they did play Lowndes.

but you’re absolutely right. I’ve been saying this for years. As a south fl guy through and through, we will ALWAYS have top tier athletes.

but one thing Florida has always been known for is undisciplined play. It’s been compared to back yard football sort of speak. While the teams in Texas, Cali & a good part of GA. Not only are they athletic & big as hell. But they hammer fundamentals. From the trenches OL, DL, special teams. Hell even their offensive schemes seem light years ahead of Florida.

which is why even some of our best Florida teams struggle vs OOS opponents whose ranked like they’re. You can get away with alot of things when you’re superior in talent vs teams who’s not.

But when you’re facing a team that recruit, get transfers like you do & etc especially from out of state ; Oh yeah that game is most definitely coming down to the better coached team.
