The bottom 3 are very weak. So much so the loss to IMG nets 33 points and a win say against N Port gets you 35.

So Lakewood Ranch would have been that 4th team. They had played no one and looked good to the computers. Too early to look at the standings in the season.

They have lost back to back games being outscored 94-10. They will take another loss next Friday by another large margin.

Im hearing rumors of 2 teams that are at the top of their region. May cancel their head2head game. Think its smart for one of them to try and cancel but not so for the other. This may become another issue with point system. If two teams are both playoff bound late in season... May do more harm than good to play that game.

How does a team simply cancel a game? I'm sure these are signed contracts with consequences.

Do you have any info on a reason why?

If one team choose to cancel they would have to forfeit.  I'm sure if their was a drop of rain that day maybe they could say their field is not playable.

I'm sure Braden River was not heart broken when one of their kids left to go to Sarasota. On the other hand a kid leaving say Lakewood Ranch to go to I think it was Riverview hurts. Not the same district or class but still the same.

Like i said its a rumor.. But the game is a reschedule from Irma. So it was changed to late in the season and now might be a total cancellation. So its not just one team trying to cancel but both teams agreeing to cancel.

The hurricane reschedule probably gives them more flexibility to cancel.

If the FHSAA allows them to cancel without consequence, then they would be asking for trouble with their system. If the two teams has already rescheduled the game, then they should be made to honor the game. You shouldn't be able to cancel just because it would help or hurt your playoff chances. If they would have canceled right after Irma, then fine. But, being that you scheduled it, man up and play.

I agree 100%. To let the cancellation stand undermines the new system.

This whole system was rushed into by fhsaa.  They did a terrible job explaining it to the coaches, ideally you would keep the old system another year but have teams schedule their non-district by the new system and see how the points system worked without it affecting their playoff chances, that would heip everyone for future scheduling.  But I guess the problem everyone had was the blowout games so if this new system is able to keep teams like Booker T and Pakokee maybe there will be less blowouts.

While I am not one to defend the system (let us see how it works out), In the FHSAA's defense, I think they did a good job of explaining it. They had several workshops, allowed coaches feedback through the internet poll, etc. Additionally, all FHSAA sports have an advisory committee that was allowed to make some changes. They had to make the change last year or you have to go to this season and next season to make the changes, because the schedules would have already been determined next year. 

The problem is that other than some numbers nerds like me, nobody was seeing how it worked out. Nobody ran the simulations. At the same time, they promised teams would be rewarded for playing good teams(and they are, if they win) so good teams scheduled other good teams. They also forgot to show that if all the good teams played each and beat up on each other than those "quality" wins wouldn't be quality wins anymore and thus you might not make the playoffs. 

The very first incantation of this idea I showed how a team who was 0-10 would have been very close to the playoffs (they scraped that idea). Long term, I think there are elements of this that would work, but the reality is that this doesn't fix the problem they were most upset about (blowouts in playoff games).

How do we know this won't fix the blowouts in playoffs until we test it out 

 

But truthfully What would help is taking teams like sta and AHP and others and put them in a open class like California 

 

Schools like them probably would be ok with being moved there so you put the national and state elites in 1 class and let everyone else fight it out in other classes

Is this your answer to every thing?  Common sense tells you a lot of the problems that would exist in this new system and they are showing year 1.

And didn't a bunch of people say last year that there would be nothing interesting in Florida and that over half the classes were locked in August? 

 

We ended up getting a few surprises

 

So again let's run the playoffs and judge after we may be surprised with the results

Almost every issue is coming from 1-4a which can be corrected

I agree 1-4A is the major issue.  I'm sure some will arise in 5A-8A but to be honest if they didn't win their district I really don't feel sorry for them.  They had a chance to make it based on on field performance.
