There has been a lot of county vs county trash talk from both teams and fan bases. Dr.Phillips say they’re the “REAL PANTHERS” and that they’re gonna come prove that on Friday.

You also have the Central Florida Vs South Florida Bragging Rights on the line, which will add to the intensity and severity of this game.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE- Dr.Phillips had a Kickoff classic game last Friday vs Boone Where They Won 31-7.

DILLARDs coaching staff elected NOT to have a Kickoff classic this year for the first time in 4 decades. They wanted to solely focus on their week 1 opponent in Dr Phillips. How’s that gonna help or hurt Dillard in week 1 is yet to be seen, being that KOC are usually used to get out the kinks, nervousness & mistakes without it going on your record if you were to lose, where as in starting week 1 everything counts.

DR PHILLIPS- the panthers of Orlando went (9-1) in the regular season & (12-2) overall including the post season losing a rematch game against the lake Mary rams at lake Mary.

even tho the panthers graduated a lot of studs they are expected to be just as good if not better this year and will be looking to make a huge statement come this Friday. Hearing from their head coach he knows that the Dillard panthers are extremely fast and physical and their biggest key to get this road win is to keep our skill guys in front of them and not get in a foot race.

DILLARD PANTHERS- The Dillard panthers went (8-2) last year including playing 3 games in 5 days to end the season in regards to two different hurricane scares early in the season.

the Panthers of Dillard high school went (9-3) overall. Including a 24 point road playoff win vs a previous undefeated John Carroll Catholic team.

Round 2- although they gave nationally ranked American heritage their toughest playoff game of the season the Dillard panthers season ended at the hand of the American heritage 24-14.

The Dillard panthers come into the 2025 season with a very deep team. They have a 4* star qb that transferred in from plantation & another 4* C/2029 qb that transferred in from tru north.

Dillard has Crazy speed up and down the roster including 4* WR Anthony Jennings Who we Call “SPEEDY” not only does he run track but he placed in 2nd place in the entire state of Florida.

Dillard also has a Star Studded “RB” room where 2-3 different guys can come in and take it 60 yards for a TD.

Our O Line & D Line  is NOT the biggest, but they are PHYSICAL & VERY fast. Which is what I think will work greatly in Dillards favor.

PREDICTION- this Will be The First Ever Matchup Between these two Football programs so the familiarity with each other will be ZERO. So there’s gonna be a lot of in game adjustments between both coaching staffs. So the team that can punch the other team in the most first and make the least amount of mistakes is who I believe will win.

I have DILLARD winning this one At Home, heavy recruits in attendance, televised game, New Turf Field, 8:00pm start, room only crowd, all the makes for a Home team victory.

DILLARD 28 DR PHILLIPS 17.

Dr. Phillips 30 Boone 7 (final)

Coverage by Jordon Lawrenz

Both teams scored a touchdown on their opening drive but it was Dr. Phillips that dominated the rest of the way.

“We’re going to be a good team; we just need to clean it up,” DP coach Rodney Wells said. “We got a long way to go but I’m excited about where we are right now.”

Camren West impressed in his debut for the home side. The former Kissimmee Osceola player had one touchdown in the air and one on the ground. He finished 10/15 for 134 yards and 5 carries for 51 yards.

Zion Matthews was a workhorse for the Panthers. His night came to a close with 18 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Two of the Panthers touchdowns came as they took advantage of Boone’s mistakes. A kick-return fumble and onside kick allowed Dr. Phillips to extend its early lead.

“Boone made some mistakes that they don’t usually make and we capitalized on them,” Wells added.

Boone’s lone score came on its first 52-yard drive.

Sam Johnson kicked off his senior season with the Braves by going 6-for-12 passing for 45 yards and a touchdown. After losing their top two running backs, Aaron Hardy Jr. recorded 35 yards on 5 carries for the Braves. That matched his yardage total from the entire 2024 season.

Dr. Phillips heads south next week for a Broward County HS National Football Showcase game against Fort Lauderdale Dillard.

Boone starts its regular season with three straight road games.

IN-GAME UPDATES:

Time runs out and Dr. Phillips wins 30-7.

Not sure but we are told special rules wipe out the touchdown so offense can ride out the game. So DP leads stays at 30-7.

TOUCHDOWN: Boone’s 8 minute drive comes to an end due to a muffed snap which Zacchaeus Kyler scooped and scored on. He went 95 yards to give Dr. Phillips a 36-7 lead with four minutes remaining.

TOUCHDOWN: Tien Williams comes into the game as QB for Dr. Phillips and throws a 15 yard passing TD to Xayvion Mincey. 30-7 Panthers at the end of the third quarter.

Sam Johnson’s QB sneak for Boone is stuffed on 4th and 1. Dr. Phillips maintains 24-7 lead with 4:40 to go in the third quarter.

Here are some halftime stats:

Dr. Phillips: Camren West: 10-of-15 passing for 134 yards, 1 TD; also 4 carries for 50 yards and a TD. Zion Matthews: 16 carries for 61 yards, 1 TD. Torrey Scott: 4 receptions for 57 yards, 1 TD.

Boone: Sam Johnson: 5-of-9 passing for 41 yards and 1 TD. Aaron Hardy Jr.: 2 carries for 24 yards. Garrison Woods: 2 receptions for 23 yards.

Dr. Phillips leads 24-7 at halftime.

FIELD GOAL: DP kicker Federico Montalvo-Salazar drills a field goal from 33 yards out. 24-7 Dr. Phillips with 3:25 on the first half clock.

Special team blunders continue for Boone as Dr. Phillips covers a surprise onside kick to take the ball at the Braves 31. 21-7 Panthers, 6:15 left in the first half.

TOUCHDOWN: Camren West’s first TD pass with Dr. Phillips is a 30 yard reception by Torrey Scott. Panthers up lead to 21-7 with 6:15 to go in the first half.

Dr. Phillips gets the ball right back as Boone fumbles at the end of a 60 yard kick return. DP leads 14-7 at 8:30 of the first half.

TOUCHDOWN: Tight defense from Boone as it took Zion Matthews three tries to punch it in from the 1 yard line for Dr. Phillips. Panthers lead 14-7 with 8:45 left in the first half.

End of the first quarter. Dr. Phillips down to Boone’s 43 yard line looking to reclaim the lead. 7-7

A costly offsides penalty against Boone on 4th and 2 keeps Dr. Phillips drive alive. 7-7 with 1:15 left in first quarter.

TOUCHDOWN: Boone answers quickly as Sam Johnson’s first passing touchdown of the season ties the game. 7-7 with 6:45 to go in the opening quarter.

TOUCHDOWN: DP quarterback Camren West keeps the ball and runs for a 40 yard touchdown. Panthers lead 7-0 at 9:25 of the first quarter.

Dr. Phillips wins the coin toss and elects to receive. Boone will kick off to start the game.

GAME NOTES:

Lake Mary’s O’Shea Faison fumbles again just before he reached the end zone. Oviedo recovers the ball for a touchback. First down Oviedo at their 20. 8 minutes remaining in the half.

After 4-6 seasons in 2022 and 2023 Dr. Phillips has returned to the upper echelon with two consecutive playoff appearances. The Panthers went 12-2 and reached a 7A state semifinal last season. Panthers coach Rodney Well is 128-44 entering his 15th season as head coach for his alma mater.

Quarterback Camren West makes his debut for DP after helping Kissimmee Osceola reach the 6A state final in 2024.

Boone QB Sam Gardner is the son of 13th-year Braves coach Andy Johnson. Sam threw for 2,020 yards and 29 TD in his past two varsity seasons.

What’s so crazy is Boone had 11 transfers this offseason, to Dr Pepper’s 2.

So I was told that in those circumstances that Boone should run Dr P out of the stadium.

I guess 11 transfers don’t mean as much as you think they do. So there’s no big deal. You will never hear a peep about Boone and Lake Howell But when a SFL team has 11 transfers who are mostly D1 guys then everyone starts getting all bent out of shape.

it’s almost as if it was never about the amount of transfers at all. It was about the quality. Hmmmmmm

you want some peanut butter with that JELLY!!!!!!! :P

Sending nothing but positive energy and great news your way. With that said, I’ll see you Friday. Hopefully you’re on Dillard side.

DP’s offense seems to suit the QB well. Spread with a tough RB and a QB who can execute the read option well. He looks a lot like the 2017 QB who took them to a state title.

No prediction, should be a close game.

DP should have a good season as they seem about level with last year’s team.

Do their fans travel well outside of Orange County their home KOC vs Boone didn’t look that full on the home side.

with this game being on Tv and against a out of county opponent from down south should put a lot of their fans on the road hopefully.

Either way this is gonna be a nice heavy weight matchup with a lot of adjustments to make as both teams are most likely gonna throw out new schemes & wrinkles

I would be hesitant to over hype the QB that transferred from our school as he is a good kid and did play in a read type running attack, but seldom pulled the ball so didn't appear to be a "Willing Runner" though he had some ability.   I believe in the state final against West Boca they crowded the line of scrimmage to stop Swint and dared us to throw.  We had several receivers running wide open and I believe he was 0-7 for the game.    DP's top RB, Zion Matthews also transferred there from OHS.   We wish them both good fortune in their senior season.

Wow...The Mathews kid would have thrived in Osceola's offense. I guess in today's world its too tough to wait your turn behind someone like Swint. But it would have paid off in a big way for him as a senior. Barring any injuries he would have had a real shot at avg. 100yds a game with all the carries he would have had.

Dillard wins the Panther bowl. They been Panthers for longer. Dr Pepper has to replace too much. The QB won’t be the difference maker. The Dillard D will force him into some mistakes and they will capitalize.

Dillard wins 24-14

Looking at their game vs Boone idk if Boone is just terrible or Dr Phillips just was good enough to do what they wanted.

they Qb optioned Boone to death, they rb was looking like marshon lynch mixed with Derrick Henry they way the defense couldn’t stop the run.

I believe our physical defense & our speed is what’s gonna propel us to victory especially if we place a clean game & start fast

Good observation as we have a good group of RB's returning, but none have the size 6' 200lbs. that Zion possesses so he would have provided the inside grinder.  His family certainly feels it was the right move for him so hope it works out.

Let’s go Dillard! This might be Browards only chance at a win in this event

It would be funny af if we’re the only team that win lol. But after that piss poor showing vs piper and monarch you might be right.

but that’s what you get putting the bolles vs monarch matchup in the pick ems over Dillard and Dr Phillips ain’t no way that was the better game lol. Panthers vs panthers broward vs Orlando don’t get no better then that

Yeah I bought into the transfer hype on Monarch. I know transfer doesn’t mean good. I stumbled out the gate. I’ll tighten up moving forward. Lol.

    • Just a terrific high school football game from start to finish, with one of the most bizarre officiating sequences I've ever seen. PBC and FPC were tied 14-14 at the half. PBC completely shut the FPC running game down, but QB Drew LaPlante kept the chains moving with the short and intermediate passing game and hit WR Marquan Burgess across the middle and he ran away from the Bronco secondary for a 67 yard TD to put the Cobras up 28-21 early in the 4th. Bronco QB Chase Routson led them on a long drive, and with 1:26 to go, hit WR Jayden St Fort for an 18 yard TD to make it 28-27. I thought for sure it would go to OT, but the snap was just a little off and the holder took a split second longer to get it down, throwing the timing off and the kicker pushed it wide right to keep it at 28-27. On the onside kick attempt, a PBC defender CLEARLY touched the football before it went 10 yards, and the flag came out immediately by the closest official. PBC recovered the ball around midfield, but the football was correctly awarded to FPC at the 47 where it was first touched by the kid from PBC. The FPC offense and the PBC defense took the field and and were approaching the LOS, when PBC used a timeout, which I thought was odd because I was sure they only had 2, and would need both to have even a slim shot to get the football back. That's when the fun started. After a lengthy discussion, the officials changed their minds, and said that it was PBC's football...but not at the point where it was recovered. They moved the football back to the PBC 35 with no apparent signal of a penalty. I've seen penalties waved off in high school, but I have NEVER seen a call like that reversed after that length of time. After all that, PBC moved down to FG range, but a holding call and a sack left them with the football at the FPC 43 with 4 seconds to go. Routson's pass on the Hail Mary was all you could ask for, and he had 2 WR going up for it in a crowd of FPC defensive backs, and after it was tipped, a Cobra DB came away with it to preserve the win. FPC will host Doc Phillips next week.  We also saw a FIT game on Thursday night with @MarkECannon at Doc Garcia as the Bulldogs hosted the Sarasota Sailors. It was another highly entertaining back and forth game that was tied 21-21 after one quarter, and still a 41-33 game with Doc Garcia leading early in the 4th, but Sarasota's defense was gassed and Garcia started gashing them on the ground to come away with a 55-33 win. Still, I loved getting an extra game in this week, and love the FIT setup. If those kids and coaches want to keep playing and coaching, why not? On a side note, Palm Beach Central had a QB that I saw play as a freshman and sophomore named Cade Butler. I wondered whatever became of him, as he was no longer at PBC after the Routson kid transferred from Boca to PBC a couple of years ago. It turns out that Butler is the QB at Doc Garcia now. He was MONEY on Thursday night, and I'd guess was well over 300 yards passing with 4 TD.
    • You're not kidding, on the Matchups. I was about to do a coin toss to pick a couple of them.
    • It's flawed because the system isn't doing what it claimed to do  Going further back into the past only deludes the product even more. The fhsaa thought moving away from metro suburban and returning to student enrollment as the only measure of classifications did exactly what i said it would do and look at the playoff results last week if you don't believe me. Pretty sure the average margin of victory was over 30 points for the entire state of Florida  Seeding should absolutely be earned we just need a better formula for it
    • Wrong, we are the #3 SEED in our Region while South Lake is the #2 SEED.  Seeding by the FHSAA is extremely flawed as almost everyone on this forum agrees.  That determines home field advantage and your earlier point of a lousy team hosting if you alternate every year is moot if you followed Perspectives view which I agree with is that for the opening round games the DISTRICT CHAMP should host.   That will make that possibility minimal.   Yes, I would like transparency, but in the end if I could see how they arrived at their mistakes it wouldn't make me feel any better.
    • I absolutely love watching Dillard, MNW and Central bands and their dance teams.  High skill and entertainment.
