Heartbreak as our defense played lights out shutting down their ability to run and limiting offense thru the air.  They won the toss and elected to defer and we promptly marched the ball methodically down their throat for 80 yards for a TD and consumed exactly 8 minutes of the first quarter.  Kicked to them, forced a 3 and out and got the ball back.  Did the same thing again for another TD and 12-0 lead.  We lost our kicker who was a 2 year starter right before the season started as he moved to PA to live with his grandfather, thus the extra point problems.   They managed one drive before halftime but had to settle for a field goal as the clock wound down for a 12-3 lead.  On the ensuing second half kick we pooched it in the air to about their 40-yard line where 2 of their players were undecisive and let the ball bounce in between them.   We converged as we thought we may recover a fumble, but they got a funny bounce, we lost contain and 60 yards later they got their first TD plus extra point.  Score 12-10.  They finally managed their only sustain long drive of the game which was aided by a 15 yard personal foul penalty on a 3rd and 6 which they had failed to make.  Still having the momentum they were able to complete a few short passes down the field for the final TD, 17-12.   We had a final drive with clock running down that started at our 3 yard line after a punt by them and we got to midfield but simply not enough time.  Doubt they gained more than 40-50 yards on the ground and maybe another 150 thru the air.  Neither team is as strong as last years, but have room to grow as our new QB was pretty poised throughout and made several great plays with both his feet and his arm.  Definitely think he is an improvement over the one that left.  Gotta bounce back next week to get this bad taste out of our mouth.

I left before the end of the second quarter when Osceola was in full control and was driving inside the Lake Mary 20, i thought they were going to score and go up 18-0 the way they were dominating the first half.

Crazyyy to see Lake Mary pull of another huge comeback and ruin my pickem lol.

You are right, we ended up inside their 20 with a 4th and goal, but rather than kicking the field goal (if we had a kicker),  we were forced to go for it.  Our QB hit a wide open TE inside the 5 where he could have easily scored but he dropped the ball and we turned it over on downs getting zero points.  That gave them a bit of life where they managed to drive it down just before halftime for a field goal and 3 points.  It made the score 12-3 as opposed to us having 18 or 20 at half.   Our kicking game cost us again starting the 2nd half as it was designed for coverage to the left, but instead he kicked it over to the right hash mark and after a lucky bounce they returned it to the house to immediately shift the momentum in their favor with a score of 12-10 with hardly any time running off the clock.  To compound matters, we picked up several penalties during the second half to kill drives constantly putting us behind the chains including 3 holding penalties, couple of procedure penalties and even a couple of delay of games.  Not questioning those were committed, but we had sacked their QB a few times plus put constant pressure on him the first half and they clearly held on multiple occasions to protect him but never got flagged once.   That is the real tale of 2 HALVES as opposed to some great miracle comeback by LM, no disrespect intended.

Although I agree the most important stat in a game is the final score,  LM 17 - OHS 12.  Now that both schools have updated their game stats on MaxPreps, thought it helpful to validate my first sentence on this thread regarding our defensive effort and also our ability to move the ball.  Lake Mary had 108 yds. passing and 17 rushing for a grand total of 125 for the game.  Remember, they are supposed to have a high-flying offense with the Notre Dame commit pulling the trigger.  Kowboys had 134 yds. passing and 213 rushing for a grand total of 347 yds. for the game.   The point I am trying to make is are we that good or are they not as good as they are ranked??  Only time will tell.

It's likely the typically stout Kowboys defense had a lot to do with the low offensive output for LM. LM scored 30 (albeit after only 7 in 3ish quarters) against Miami Norland, which is no pushover.

Our defense has looked pretty stout thus far and that is always a good sign.  Not ready to call them elite as I felt they were last year, but they are showing up.  Only two games thus far so looking for that consistency week in and week out.

    • 1)  If the judge can look past this incredibly shallow legal ploy, he/she could certainly find a way to wedge TFA into the bracket. 2)  Why don't you tell us how you really feel?
    • How many of these top 8 win a state title?  The open division is a great idea until you use the FHSAA rankings which suck.
    • So absolutely dumb question here.  How are you allowed into the playoffs if you didn't play any district games?  Without being in a district, you aren't assigned a region so it seems like you should be ineligible since you don't have a region to qualify in?   Excuse my language, but FUCK THE FIRST ACADEMY!  They cheat, break all the rules, and then wreck everyone else's playoff experience.  There are teams still in limbo as they sort this out.  FUCK THE FIRST ACADEMY! I have never written a swear word in any post on this forum so for me to start posting language like this, it really means I truly hate that team.  They recruited, broke rules and then decided to be IMG and play a national schedule.  Great, a national team has a different mission than the rest of us who roll with our student body.  GTFO of our playoffs and go play with the other recruiters.  I personally know a kid who transferred into that school this year.  This kid has not played for the same team two years in a row since I first met him in youth ball.  He is home schooled (so no school essentially), has reclassified to develop more, and is the perfect fit for those no-school, sports only mercenaries who play for TFA.  He somehow transfers 100+ miles to another school too?  I guess that's legal... looking at you Lakeland and Venice lol.   Anyway, did I mention FUCK THE FIRST ACADEMY yet?
    • That’s horrible: holding the winter sports hostage. This is digusting behavior on the part of the FHSAA. These actions are common with entities that have nothing to lose, and want to sabotage as much as possible before crashing and burning.    The FHSAA doesn’t seem redeemable. It’s time to flush this turd down the toilet and start over
    • My son is a wrestler and the 24th ranked 215 in the state for 3A.  This is definitely going to hurt him initially because wrestling is a really tough sport to jump back into and he will be behind.  The positive is the heavier weight classes (190+) are typically football players so most kids are joining late due to football so it's mostly equal footing catching up.   Now our basketball team is absolutely gutted by this.  They can't even field a team until they get their guys back from football.
