We're heading to Key West for the weekend and will watch KW v Belen on Friday night, but are trying to decide to watch Spanish River @ Jupiter or go on to Miami for a game, and Miami @ Coral Gables is one of those. I looked on Google Earth, and it looks like there's a field at the school, but I don't see any stands.

I’m probably going to Spanish River @ Jupiter Thursday night.  If you do let me know so I could say hello.

Will do. SR @ Jupiter should be a decent game. If you're looking for something to eat at the game, I highly recommend Little Moir's food truck. They also have a restaurant in town that is excellent.

I found out that the Coral Gables game is at Tropical Park, so we decided on that one since we've never been before. Enjoy the game at Jupiter. It's a nice facility and it should be competitive.

Not sure if you knew but Miami vs Coral Gables is one of the oldest rivalries in Dade County. Could be the oldest I would have to check. It peaked in the 60’s when both teams won multiple national championships. The winner of that game won 7 national championships just in the 1960’s alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just looked it up. Here’s the results in the 1960’s.

(Miami finished 9-0 and won the national title)

1964 Coral Gables 13, Miami 6

(Coral Gables finishes 12-0 and won the national title)

1965 Miami 14, Coral Gables 7

(Miami finished 12-0 and won the national title)

1967 Coral Gables 16, Miami 0

(Coral Gables finished 12-0 and won the national title. Miami went 10-1)

1968 Coral Gables 24, Miami 0

(Coral Gables went 12-1 and won a share of the national title)

I didn't know that. We drove by Miami a few years ago. That is a stunning campus. Rough game tonight though for both teams. Small rosters and very little talent, especially Miami. The game didn't kickoff until around 8:15 or so due to lightning, then we had a 20 minute or so delay when the lights went out before they could finish the half. They skipped the half and kept playing, but we cut out when it was 27-0, with Coral Gables in the lead.

Coral Gables used to be called Ponce De Leon High. I believe they changed their name to Coral Gables High in 1950.

Miami vs Edison is actually the first matchups in Dade. Then Ponce came along shortly after and would play both. Then Jackson came in the 30’s. So those were the 4 big high schools in Dade for the longest. There were some smaller schools like Miami Military Academy and a bunch of private schools, but those were the 4 top dogs for the longest

Jupiter won 24-13.  They jumped out to a 10-0 lead.  Spanish River showed very little energy until a Go Route TD pass brought them to life.  Perhaps the key played occurred on the last play of the first half.  Spanish River drove to about the 10 yard line.  Instead of kicking a field goal they tried to try to get the TD with possibly enough time to run one more play if it failed.  They then threw a pass near the left sideline with the receiver cutting back to the ball.  It was caught right at the goal line going down in bounds.  The referee ruled he caught the ball out of the end zone running out the clock with Spanish River out of time outs.  The Spanish River coaches ran to refs to protest but to no avail.

Late in the 3rd quarter Jupiter went on a long drive resulting in a TD.  The drive ate up much of the clock by primarily running the same off tackle play alternating to the left and right by RB Jayden Roberts.  Jupiter scored on a 4th down pass in the left flat with the receiver practically walking in.  Spanish River had trouble recovering from that leading to the final result.

IMO both teams could qualify for the playoffs but neither would get very far.
