A great game.  A lot of fun.  AHP is a beautiful cozy stadium but come on.  The seating capacity is too small.  I didn’t use the restroom but my buddy said it was incredibly small and half the scoreboard didn’t work.  During the 1st half  the academic accomplishments were read over the PA.  They are extremely impressive.  I was waiting for the old cheer “Ooo ooo eh eh we do better on the SAT!”.

AHP played a terrific first half.  WR Jeffar Jean-Noel had a big first half scoring the first TD due to a busted coverage.  Just when you were beginning to think Central was never going to get their act together, in the second quarter they get a safety and a TD return on subsequent plays so it’s Central up 9-7.  Then the Rockets use a 3 man rush with passive zone coverage that allowed AHP to march down the field to make it 14-9 right before halftime.

In the 2nd half, AHP made it 21-9 while looking like the superior team.  Anyone that has followed Central over the years knows they can catch fire to turn the game around quickly and that they did.  QB Anthony McQueen, who struggled all game, finally settled down to play brilliantly.  After overthrowing receivers all night he found his groove. It was all Rockets from then on which led to the 31-21 victory.

This game played out similar to the Chaminade loss for AHP.  They were the better team for most of the game but not able to finish in the fourth quarter.  AHP‘s defensive backs who were stellar in the first half started to get beat by the speedy Rocket receivers.  If Central is to beat Miami Northwestern, they are going to need to put together a better complete game.

Agree with everything you said, I was at the game. Central found success when they started getting pressure on the qb , also if you can stop the patriots run and get some pressure on them in 3rd and long you can beat them.

1-3 is 1-3 , yes the national games they play be competitive throughout but when the dust settle this is their 3rd str8 lost. Heritage should not be ranked nationally or in the top 25 in Florida

Oh man!  I was in the same stadium as Dillardboyz and did not meet up with you?  I saw a guy with a STRAIGHT OUT OF DILLARD shirt.  Was that you?

Not making excuses but, it should be noted that 5* duel threat QB Dia Bell is out for the season. Bell under similar pressure creates plays. Great win for MC though!

Why does MC only have 7 games on the schedule?  Why so few games?

I don’t have a specific answer for you but here is what I’ve experienced this year since I moved to the area in July.  Especially in Dade County, schedules can seem fluid.  One of Central’s games this year was first listed for Thursday, then Friday and then I checked ScoreStream on Saturday morning to find out the scores from the night before only to find out they were about to play at 10am.

You just moved back to Florida in July?

The 1st game of the season against Raines was canceled due to things on their end in Jacksonville. The game against Pompano Beach was scheduled but due to weather conditions was canceled but that's a district game so it's probably postponed not canceled. This is why you have 7 games. Central didn’t have a 10 game schedule this year and minus the two that was canceled you'll be back at 9 games.

I don’t punish teams for losing to elite teams. Especially if the game isn’t a blowout. However I do punish teams who barely beat bad teams ;)

Ehhh it’s a Fine line With that Brodie lol. It’s to many variables that can play a part. If you ask me you’re what your RECORD says You’re. A LOST IS A LOST there’s no keeping it close category in a win or lost column.

but now if we’re gonna go there then let’s hold every team to that standard.

for example AMERICAN HERITAGE: they came in as 21 point favorites vs st Joseph’s prep. That weekend st Joseph’s came in ranked #95 nationally vs American heritage top 20 nationally ranked. The patriots were down 28, before the head and humidity got to the visiting team and the home team took advantage and mounted the comeback. But as far as the “rankings” are concerned the fact heritage was down 28 to begin with is alarming enough, then they went on to lose their next 3 games. I’m sorry that’s not a good thing. History and mystique aside.

Another example. DILLARD , we played against Miramar Saturday. That’s a HUGE rival game. And every year the game comes down to the wire. That’s something to take into heavy consideration.

yes Miramar record was (1-3) now (1-4) but their defense is very good, and we also gotta remember all of these are kids who all have 1 goal: “Making it out” , coaches who job maybe on the line. Miramar came out fighting like hell to save their season. With nothing but pride on the line. Dillard and Miramar have played the last 7 consecutive years. Crosstown rivals if you will. Like Dillard & Ely, when Miramar and Dillard play, bragging rights are on the line, record goes out the window.  And we also have to take in account who they lost to. They lost to a 4-1 creek team, a 5-0 mater team whose loaded with transfers, they also lost a McArthur team loaded with transfers. Even then they only gave up on avg 17ppg.

I said all that to say , to many times we move the goal post and make exceptions/ excuses for certain team depending on who they’re and their history, when the same guidelines needs to be the same for every team.

another example JONES: if we’re going off of keeping a team ranked off close loses to solid schools and no excuse for a Team struggling with a “bad team” then jones should be banned from the top 25 after losing to Evan’s as 26 point favorites lol. Then they turned right around and lost to edgewater as 10 point favorites.

So I don’t go off computer projections.

And AHP beat SJP who would be top 5 in FL. And they played one score games with Chaminade and Karr. Chaminade is top 5 in FL and Karr would probably be top 10. And they had Central on the ropes before Central showed why they are top 2 in state.

So AHP played 4 games with top 2-7 type state ranked teams and were competitive and played on even terms with all of them.

So understanding the human element and what my eyes tell me, I can confidently say AHP is a top 7 team.

And if you want to go with computers, Miramar isn’t even top 100 in Florida. And that sounds about right. And Dillard played a virtual draw and needed a miracle to win. So it tells me that Dillard is close in strength to Miramar. These are similar teams. Dillard is getting the benefit of playing a bad schedule. So their record is what makes everything look good, but the result against a bad team like Miramar is too glaring to ignore.

And I don’t take stock into that rivalry stuff only because plenty of times teams blow their rival out. Dillard lost 50-0 one year to Ely.

Spruce Creek will drop for being in a dog fight with Titusville. It wasnt some big lead and they scored in garbage time against backups. Titusville was with them every step of the way. All the way to the end. Good teams dismantle teams like Titusville.

Titusville is scary bad. And it was a 4 quarter war. That’s unacceptable.

Close wins against really bad opponents are worse than losing against elite teams. Not in the W/L category obviously, but when you are analyzing teams they are.

Dillard needing a miracle to win is a bit of a stretch bro lol. Needing a miracle is like a Hail Mary attempt or something. We did what great teams do which is adjust and handle business in the second half. We can’t use computer rankings for some and not for others. Miramar record is 1-4 but the talent on their team is way better than that. They just so happen to play a solid ass schedule to start the season. McArthur and Mater both have revamped rosters from last year full of transfers. That’s not gonna show on maxpreps rankings because maxpreps is computer generated with no real knowledge on teams year to year.

Thats like Dillard going toe to toe with heritage in the 2nd round last year AT heritage, leading nationally ranked heritage 14-0 at halftime being the ONLY TEAM to hold them scoreless in the first half all year , giving heritage their toughest playoff game of all of last year.

Hell Dillard didn’t get no credit for that. Why because in a lot of minds yea yall played it close but u didn’t win. So if that’s the case if you play 3 good teams and u lose all 3 to the masses standards that mean you’re not a good team because a good team would find a way to win atleast one of them.

down here in broward if you a played a tough schedule and you’re (1-3) after 5 weeks they’ll tell you str8 up “YOU NOT LIKE DAT” meaning you NOT for real. So let that be the standard for everyone lol

    • Yeah in the 70’s-90’s the debate will most likely be between the top 2 largest class state champs
    • 1976 - Godby HS went 14-0, defeated ledgendary Gene Cox, Leon Lions for the 1st time in school history in its last game of the regular season. Beat a Carol City Team, (that would come back the next year to win the 1977 state title), 21-15 in Lakeland, FL for the 1976 4A title. Two members of that Godby team (Sammy Knight, Chris Hobbs) would then lead FAMU to a upset win over the University of Miami. 1978 - Meritt Island - Beat Carl Madison coached (going to see the name Carl Madison alot through out the 80's),Pine Forrest for the 4A state Title 20-16 and would go on to be repeat state champs winning the 1979 state 4A state title as well, seeing Pine Forrest once again in the Finals 1979 - Merritt Island - Beat Pine Forrest 19-14 1980 - Argument could be made that 3A state Champ Gainesville HS was the states best, as they defeated Titusville on Titusville's home field 21-15, but in the end Carl Madison's (who we'll talk about again in the 80's), Tate HS has to be considered the state best destorying Miami Columbus HS 35-7! 1981 - Again 3A would again have to be where the state's best team played. Palatka after struggling in its 1st round game went on to dominate evenutally winning the state title 42-2 over Suncoast. Unlike Vero Beach (which won the 4A state itle that year), Palatka was loaded with star power, with 2 of its players eventually playing in the NFL (John L Williams, and Jarvis Williams) 1982 - Going 3A once again as Titusville would shutout 3 of its 4 playoff opponents, winning the state title over Osceola 33-0 1983 - 4A Manatee High School goes 14-0 for its 1st state title and the beginning of a dynasty through out the 80's and into the early 90's   more later.......
