4:30pm this Saturday October 4 at Traz Powell.  Game time probably moved because Miami @ FSU at 7:30pm.  This game time is according to GoFan where tickets to this game is available.

I’m going.  JDHoss said he is going.  I’m sure Dillardboyz will be there unless his Panthers will be busy slaughtering another opponent that day.  I say we coordinate and meet before the game.  If anyone else is going and is interested let us know.  We can communicate via messaging within the website.

If we didn't have our biggest rival that day I would have most definitely been there. We have our soul bowl that day at 6 vs Blanche ely at Blanche ely

Well crap. High school football is meant to be played under the lights. Oh well. We had planned on spending the night, but might rethink that now, depending how long the game takes and what the weather is like. My night vision isn't what it used to be, and a wet road only compounds that.

Bought my ticket tonight.  Just sent you a message.

Just got mine as well.

I wish that there were more pure high school football fans like you and Mark E Cannon. The sport in Florida would be much better off if there was, but I thank you both, and wish you both all the best.

Well, thank you Jambun.  It seems you have turned a new leaf.  It’s a joy to see you be kind and positive.  If this continues maybe we can meet some where and hang out like you did with our friend Dan in Daytona.

I haven't changed at all. I have always been the man who lays it out the way that it is!

Thanks, man. Football was King back where I grew up, and on Friday night, they shut the towns down and packed the stadiums. For me, there's nothing like high school football.

I had the same experience back where I grew up

In Virginia, and there were a bunch of small towns. The district we played in had 8 teams, and 6 of them won state titles. Some were multiple, and my old school led the way with 8. Friday nights were an event, and usually someone had their own version of the Muck Bowl on any given night. Unfortunately, there's not a lot left back there, but people still turn out in droves to watch the consolidated schools and a few of the old holdovers go at it.

Today is the day!  I’ve seen Central and Northwestern play many, many times but not against each other.  My new home away from home, Traz Powell Stadium, the Mecca of high school football, should be rocking at 4:30 today.  I’m sure the tailgate has already begun.  Hoping to meet up with JDHoss and sit with him at the game.  Going to wear my nicest button down FSU shirt.  Not sure how JDHoss will feel about that.  Expect some fun harassment with the U flashed a lot even though there will be an FSU commitment playing for both teams.  JDHoss wants to sit on the Northwestern side so I will be an undercover Rockets fan.  I always respect the side I’m sitting on.  Should be a great game and experience.

Alright!  What an experience!  I can now say I have been to a Central/Northwestern football game and I’m proud to say it.

First of all, the very best of it was I had the privilege to meet and watch the game with JDHoss and his wife.  I thoroughly enjoyed them.  To me, it was the best part of the day.

Now before I speak about the football, allow me make some observations.  Just so you know, I did wear my button-down FSU shirt.  As expected, I received a lot of fun harassment. I’m really glad I wore it. It definitely led to some good interactions.  Now, I have been in a lot of crazy social situations before. Actually some of them at a football game, but to use an old phrase, this was off the chain.  Just so you know nothing bad happened. We were treated friendly and with respect by the Northwestern fans.  They were having a blast. I’ve been to many parties and clubs in places most people would never go but I have never seen what I experienced Saturday at a football game and it is not even come close. If you would like details hit me up. I’m not gonna talk about it on this message board.

Now to the football, Central started off well, but threw a backward pass that was an incomplete lateral which resulted in a Northwestern scoop and score.   From then on Northwestern really controlled this game.  Central held on by completing some long TD passes to keep the game close at halftime. I was looking for Central to come out blazing in the third quarter but it did not happen. Northwestern‘s talent was just too much.  Their sophomore quarterback looks like a superstar in the making. He’s best when he breaks out of the pocket and throws on the run.  He was fantastic. Central seemed to be playing on their heels for most of the game and especially in the second half with Northwestern ultimately prevailing.

The game was marred by an incredible number of penalty flags, some called team timeouts and some timeouts we didn’t even know why there was a timeout.  A fan had to be removed from the field after running on it after touchdown.  Multiple delay of game penalties and it seemed like a penalty flag was thrown every other play.  At one point there was an injury over on the opposite sideline. We did not know what it was all about. It could’ve been a referee or fan that was injured.  I would say the game lasted just a little over an hour longer than it should have.  I will end on this note. I have never seen as much police presence after a high school football game in my life.  There was so much I took pictures and sent it to some of my friends.

If these two teams meet again in the playoffs, my advice to Central is they better tighten up in their coaching and on the field.  Northwestern was clearly the better team yesterday.

Likewise, Mark. It was a pleasure to meet you. Great atmosphere, size and speed all over the field, but marred by so many penalties, any of which were mental mistakes by the coaching staffs like substitution infractions and countless delay of game penalties. Glad all of those cops were there afterwards helping direct traffic. Getting out wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and we were back home by 10.

Both of them will meet again in the playoffs if neither one messes up. From what you saw does Raines have a chance against either of them.

MarkECannon, and JDHoss, were most of the fouls procedural penalties?

Lots of procedural penalties, countless delay of game and several substitution infractions. Central had a delay of game penalty out of a timeout. NW at one point (IIRC) went from 1st & 10 to 1st and 30  with a mixture of (4) 5 yard infractions. Great game, but it was frustrating to watch at times. I'd love to see how many total penalties there were.

I know Raines is loaded again obviously.  You know the knock on Raines will be be they haven’t played competition like there is in South Florida.  People that know me know I love high school football in Florida.  I try to keep up with the whole state. This year I’ve attended 3 Central games and NW twice.  I think Raines has the talent to compete but I would question whether Raines has seen anything like Chaminade, AHP, Northwestern, Aquinas and Central.  A lot of those teams play each other.  These teams know what it is like to get punched in the face and gut, not literally, against high quality teams then get off the floor to come back to fight like hell.   Hate to say it but Raines doesn’t see many if any teams like these.  Plus South Florida teams play some high quality teams from out of state.

So my answer is no but that is why they play the games.  Prove me wrong Raines!

Those kind of games can be very difficult, regardless of the talent of the two teams.

Oh man, I’m starting to miss Bad Jambun.

"Bad Jambun"? Do you mean when you said that you attended a game in Miami, and I reminded you the the TWO-TIME DEFENDING STANLEY CUP CHAMPION FLORIDA PANTHERS will start their quest for the 3-peat Tuesday Night?!

Come on Jambun.  You can do better than that.

    • Just a terrific high school football game from start to finish, with one of the most bizarre officiating sequences I've ever seen. PBC and FPC were tied 14-14 at the half. PBC completely shut the FPC running game down, but QB Drew LaPlante kept the chains moving with the short and intermediate passing game and hit WR Marquan Burgess across the middle and he ran away from the Bronco secondary for a 67 yard TD to put the Cobras up 28-21 early in the 4th. Bronco QB Chase Routson led them on a long drive, and with 1:26 to go, hit WR Jayden St Fort for an 18 yard TD to make it 28-27. I thought for sure it would go to OT, but the snap was just a little off and the holder took a split second longer to get it down, throwing the timing off and the kicker pushed it wide right to keep it at 28-27. On the onside kick attempt, a PBC defender CLEARLY touched the football before it went 10 yards, and the flag came out immediately by the closest official. PBC recovered the ball around midfield, but the football was correctly awarded to FPC at the 47 where it was first touched by the kid from PBC. The FPC offense and the PBC defense took the field and and were approaching the LOS, when PBC used a timeout, which I thought was odd because I was sure they only had 2, and would need both to have even a slim shot to get the football back. That's when the fun started. After a lengthy discussion, the officials changed their minds, and said that it was PBC's football...but not at the point where it was recovered. They moved the football back to the PBC 35 with no apparent signal of a penalty. I've seen penalties waved off in high school, but I have NEVER seen a call like that reversed after that length of time. After all that, PBC moved down to FG range, but a holding call and a sack left them with the football at the FPC 43 with 4 seconds to go. Routson's pass on the Hail Mary was all you could ask for, and he had 2 WR going up for it in a crowd of FPC defensive backs, and after it was tipped, a Cobra DB came away with it to preserve the win. FPC will host Doc Phillips next week.  We also saw a FIT game on Thursday night with @MarkECannon at Doc Garcia as the Bulldogs hosted the Sarasota Sailors. It was another highly entertaining back and forth game that was tied 21-21 after one quarter, and still a 41-33 game with Doc Garcia leading early in the 4th, but Sarasota's defense was gassed and Garcia started gashing them on the ground to come away with a 55-33 win. Still, I loved getting an extra game in this week, and love the FIT setup. If those kids and coaches want to keep playing and coaching, why not? On a side note, Palm Beach Central had a QB that I saw play as a freshman and sophomore named Cade Butler. I wondered whatever became of him, as he was no longer at PBC after the Routson kid transferred from Boca to PBC a couple of years ago. It turns out that Butler is the QB at Doc Garcia now. He was MONEY on Thursday night, and I'd guess was well over 300 yards passing with 4 TD.
    • You're not kidding, on the Matchups. I was about to do a coin toss to pick a couple of them.
    • It's flawed because the system isn't doing what it claimed to do  Going further back into the past only deludes the product even more. The fhsaa thought moving away from metro suburban and returning to student enrollment as the only measure of classifications did exactly what i said it would do and look at the playoff results last week if you don't believe me. Pretty sure the average margin of victory was over 30 points for the entire state of Florida  Seeding should absolutely be earned we just need a better formula for it
    • Wrong, we are the #3 SEED in our Region while South Lake is the #2 SEED.  Seeding by the FHSAA is extremely flawed as almost everyone on this forum agrees.  That determines home field advantage and your earlier point of a lousy team hosting if you alternate every year is moot if you followed Perspectives view which I agree with is that for the opening round games the DISTRICT CHAMP should host.   That will make that possibility minimal.   Yes, I would like transparency, but in the end if I could see how they arrived at their mistakes it wouldn't make me feel any better.
    • I absolutely love watching Dillard, MNW and Central bands and their dance teams.  High skill and entertainment.
