No worries, Nolebull will surely find a rationale to come in the defense of the privates.

Not much to hear.

Large sample size; statistically significant finding; facts don't lie.  Thanks for confirming the obvious.

Chaminade beat McArthur, Western, Edison and Monarch.

STA beat Western, Boyd Anderson, Hollywood Hills and McArthur

AHP beat Plantation and Flanagan

Bolles beat Oakleaf, Monarch and Baldwin

Jesuit beat Blake, University and soon 3 more garbage publics.

These teams are doo doo. And there are tons of examples like this.

maxpreps has their top 25 and no including IMG, they have 7 privates and 18 publics.

Plus publics win more titles than privates. so tell me again how the privates rule the roost?

Blountstown in rural win 56-3

57-13

60-13

38-7

58-22

58-6

all against other rural teams. Not a peep.

But back when NFC and UC finally started winning after decades of small public dominance…..

no fair!!!!!! We need our own special class!!!!!!!!

get the hell out of here. The top rural teams beat the living crap out of the bad rural teams and no one says a word. But when private schools were beating publics all hell breaks loose.

spare me the fake outrage

Not really. There is no context. I just listed the top privates in the entire state and they beat some of the worst publics in the state.

Just checked 4A. Only 4 of 66.

So the 4 biggest classes in the entire state have 6 privates and about 225 publics give or take.

So the FHSAA has quietly just regulated the small classes as defacto private classes and the top 4 classes as the public ones

I know @PinellasFB has brought it up but no one else cried when West Boca has a transfer all star team and won state. How Venice lives off transfers in their championship years. Same with Lakeland. They were a Polk County all star team for decades. Armwood and Plant got the pick of the litter in the Tampa Bay Area when they combined for 7 titles in 10 or so years.

Im so sick of all the crying and whining. Florida has changed the rules that there is no more advantages. Everyone can accumulate talent the same way as everyone else

Facts be DAMNED, I predicted he would come out swinging defending the privates so at least he can't dispute that can he.

They win because they are in the most talented area of the state. Broward is home to the nation’s best talent. And Dade. It’s a talent difference. North and Central FL just don’t have the same type of jimmy’s and Joe’s. It’s why MNW and MC can combine for 18 or so titles. Not sure without looking it up but it’s up there. Lakeland has like 10. Armwood, Plant and Jefferson have a combined 8 in a 10 year stretch.

The thing these publics all have in common is they are in areas that do have immense talent. When Armwood went to the title game and lost like 5 years in a row to Dade teams it’s because they were out-talented.

Thats the bottom line. The areas with the most talent win the most. Not much more complicated than that

The areas that have the most talent that recruits it the best by whatever means you can justify, wins the most.  That is the bottom line no matter how you paint it.  That's what all the teams you mentioned have in common, be it public or private.  But the publics that resorted to doing this did so to level the playing field with the few privates that were dominating in the early 2000's.   When a new face appears ( ie... Flanagan HS or West Boca) to win a state championship, it was in those heavily populated areas of the state where they could get those exceptional Jimmy's and Joe's.  Come on Nolebull even Larry, Curly and Mo could figure this out.

Yeah I know. It’s not a public/private problem. It’s an access to top talent issue.

The metro/suburban experiment was the best way they could come up with to counter that advantage. The problem was there was too many classes. Like there is now. I actually like the idea of the metro/suburban but with only 6 classes total and no rural. The rural would be the starting point for the smallest of the 3 suburban classes.

If the FHSAA doesn’t want to fix the issue then all the teams that don’t like it can leave until enough are gone to create a new association. Until then we gotta live with what we are presented.

Another way would be to cut the classes to 5 and have an open division for teams who get a certain amount of agreed upon transfers for that year.

I got the ideas but no one ever listens to poor ole Nolebull

My vote, 1 open division with 12-16 teams and then 3 classifications.   Based on data from LAZ, school population really doesn't matter much so make each one larger (bigger districts) for small, medium and large.  Other schools can go independent or SSAA.

So for example if 40 schools in the entire state met the criteria for the open division, how would figure out who makes the playoffs and who doesn’t?

We obviously have a different concept of the schools that are truly elite in FL (1-2% in my view) roughly 10-15 schools from year to year.  In other words, by years end and final rankings do you really believe that school X ranked 37th will beat school B ranked #3 overall?  Or when seeding comes out #40 can possibly defeat #1.  We know who the usual suspects are as you rightly listed most of them earlier in this thread.  Newbies like a Flanagan or West Boca who I mentioned would be rewarded by getting put into that group for their troubles for those few years they game the system.   Just my opinion and wonder what others think the size of the OPEN DIVISION should be.  Winner would be the overall state champ while the other 3 classes would compete for a Gold, Silver and Bronze title.

I’m not saying 40 teams should make the playoffs in an open division. I’m saying if 40 are eligible based on the transfers, how do you figure out who makes the playoffs?

I guess if your threshold for going to the OPEN DIVISION is based on the sheer number of transfers, then yes I would suppose depending on what that number is (5, 10, 20?) there could be 40 teams.   That wouldn't be my basis, rather the final season ranking taking those teams to fill out the bracket whatever size it was (12, 16, 24, etc..) with no option to opt out.

The Metro/Suburban Classifications worked to create the most equitable "playing field" for the FHSAA high school football playoffs, something that I said the very first year of the successful experiment. and I was right as usual. At this point, that should be as obvious as the point that the "tush push" should be banned from the NFL for good.

The idea in theory worked. But nine classes was embarrassing and atrocious. It was a low point in Florida high school football history. If it was six classes total, it would be a well oiled machine.

I noticed this statement as reported from the September meeting of the FHSAA Board of Directors meeting, "In discussion, Executive Director Craig Damon addressed potential classification modifications, surveying schools for input and scheduling a workshop for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 cycle."  Don't know what this could lead to, but perhaps there are some changes on the horizon.  I suggest 225 classifications so that the worst any school could be is a state runner-up in their classification.
