This is for all officials in this forum.

Please tell me what rule, not opinion. precludes a team from using a kicking ball. If a team presents the ball pregame to the officials and the ball is deemed legal. The kicker walks out on the field to do a kickoff, therefore no extra time was used getting the ball in the game. The official refused the "legal" ball and said it want a game ball, even though it was inspected and marked by the officiating crew. We were told Nope, cant use that, its a kicking ball cant use that.

Rule 1-3-3, The Referee shall decide whether the ball meets specifications, and the Referee or any other game official may order the ball changed between downs.

Rule 1-3-2, Only legal balls, approved by the Referee, may be used during the game.

The referee was presented the ball pregame, the referee marked the ball and deemed it legal. So why after all of that did the referee in charge of handing and checking the kicking ball not allow it, Even though it was approved and marked pregame.

Other than it was an obvious power trip. You can see it in how he handled the whole situation. He wanted to let everyone know he was in charge (not the white cap)

There is no such term as a "kicking ball" in NFHS rules. When a team scores a touchdown, the team is to use the same ball that was scored with, unless there was a change of possession on the scoring down, or the Referee determines a circumstance where another ball can be used for the try.

I know for a fact Jambun is an expert on the rules when it comes to game balls.  I’m not trying to be funny.  As long as I’ve known him he is a strong enforcer of game ball rules.  I’ve personally experienced this while standing on many sidelines when he worked a game.

this was on the opening kickoff, not on a point after or field goal try. the ball was properly placed where directed. What made it a kicking ball is it is an older ball, not a brand new stiff ball. Thats it!

Are you sure that the ball was checked in with the Referee and Umpire before the game?

You don't know who I am, or even if I am an official or not!

Beek the refs were brutal.  Worst I've seen in a long time.  Jambun I'm not explaining you had to be there.

Im glad it wasnt just me thinking that.

That seems very unusual, if the Officials marked the ball legal before the game.

I’m telling you.  You are dealing with a legitimate expert on this subject.  Not a joke.
