they do it in football it just takes weeks to decide who the champion is.  Here is an idea.  It won't work just an idea.  Put everyone in a 6 team district.  5 of your first 8 games are district games to determine seeding the others are up to you.  Week 9 #3 plays #6, #4 plays #5.  week 10 #1 plays winner of #4/5 and #2 plays winner of #3/6.  Week 11 district championship

Other than fact we would probably play same teams every year i actually like that idea

That idea benefits teams who improve over the year while allowing results to be played out on the field

Do the same without playing any district games during first part of season. If anything use points for seeding. Then last 4 or so weeks start the district tourney. Week 11 Championship then continue on just like the other sports. District runner up travels to a district champ. Maybe with the classes without districts have a full regional tournament.

So basically everyone plays non conference games and points would be used to seed teams then have multi week tournament?

Exactly. Now for the classes with no district. Maybe give teams a way to opt out of regional tourney. Like Bronson is last this week in region 4 in 1A. They probably wouldn't want to head down to Pahokee this year. So just give Pahokee the bye and keep it moving.

That would be a cool idea but i doubt it would happen but that probaby the closest football will ever get to a district tournament in football

only guaranteed 7 games.  Not going to happen but a decent idea.  Also teams that are real bad wouldn't travel that far and now Pahokee is out of a home gate that helps fund all athletic programs

Even though Columbiaman got a little flustered, I considered this good conversation. I am able to step back and see that, although I think something might be better, there is more than one way to skin a cat...not everyone is capable of pulling that off. Most resort to bully tactics like name calling...but I digress. If you want to know who the best team is for the entire season, then you need to measure the entire season...that seems like common sense to me, but common sense is rather uncommon anymore. The beginning of the season and the end of the season must have the same weight, if you're looking for an accurate measurement. With that said, I'm not sure taking the top-64 and putting them into some sort of "showcase" league is an answer that will work either.

Don't be skinnin no cats.

First 5 games in 6 man districts would cut down on OOS games. Most teams want to play their OOS games early in the season.

What about idea that district games Are at end of season and points from non conference games would determine seeds in a multi week tournament?

Some are liking the system and other are hating the system as we get closer to the end. I for one, am disliking it more and more. Just to many factors that teams do not control. (Using your imagination) If this was college football. Is the FSU that Alabama played still the FSU that played Boston College??? But with points today FSU is a CAT 4 and Fresno ST and Colorado St are CAT 2. Why is Alabama punished for FSU losing QB and falling apart? Could Alabama predict a preseason National Champion contender becoming a CAT 4 team???

Teams have to schedule lucky. Its not about playing good teams, its about playing teams that are going to schedule a winnable schedule.  How could we all predict Irma? A 7-2 team is a CAT 2 and a 8-2 team is a CAT 1. A 6-4 is CAT 2 and 5-4 is CAT 3. A 4-6 CAT 3 and 3-6 CAT 4. That's a possible 5 point loss to every team on their schedule since the games were cancelled and teams only played 9 games. Look at some of the 7-2 CAT 2 teams and their game that got cancelled. Many would have been favorite to win those games making them 8-2 and CAT 1 for every team on their schedule.

The problem I'm seeing is everyone thinks this is finished product

They will make changes in off season because teams have noticed issues and will push for modifications but some stuff couldn't be predicted until after it's tested

I love the system because it makes games mean more

Like this week Bolles is in a tiebreaker that will decided by points,  should they lose to columbia they will finish behind Trinity Christian in points and Trinity will win district so effectively Bolles is playing Columbia with District Championship on the line

Makes that big game even bigger

Think about how silly that actually sounds for a second...

Bolles is a playing a team not in their district to determine if they are district champion. That is the equivalent of Georgia playing Georgia Tech to determine if Georgia is going to be SEC East Division champion. A district championship should be settled on the field, the point system does the opposite. It is a system that can be easily manipulated by a savy coach. It also puts school district policies into question in terms of fairness. Many of the large urban school districts do allow teams to play out of county (other than district games). It is one of the reasons you rarely see a Duval Public School team traveling anywhere.

Were there problems with the old system? Sure, we have discussed them ad nauseam, but those same flaws still exist in the point system. You complained about poor teams making the playoffs and how this new system fixes that. Really? How many wins does Lincoln have? Could it be the result of the 3 team district that exists? Again, your new system did nothing to change this.

The old system was fine, but having district of 8 teams leads to tremendous travel concerns, especially for anyone North of Orlando or not on the coast.

And if you had old system you add Chiles out of that district as well

And why should only district games have a impact on the playoffs?

So bama should just win all sec games and lose any out of conference game and be let into college football playoffs?

this is not college football or the NFL.  Should games outside the conference determine conference championships was the question.  If you want it to be like college the get a committee. If you want it like the NFL it cant be because there are too many teams and people can't afford to travel across the state

A committee is the last thing we need

What I'm saying is why should only a few games matter on getting in the playoffs?

if you are a 1A team why should playing teams in a different class determine if you are in the 1A playoffs?

That would be like Valdosta State playing Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State and using those games to determine if they get into the D2 playoffs.

    • Complaining about North Florida slappies losing to South Florida powers is like someone graduating high school complaining that companies are only hiring college graduates and not them. And then a company saying ok to make it fair, we will open division and only hire high school graduates.
    • First I want to express my apologies for my absence the last few months. Without going into much detail I have had some personal life struggles I have been dealing with on top of figuring out the direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com in. Things have finally settled out some over the last few weeks although I am not completely out of the woods just yet. Some of the decisions about what direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com have been forming over this time while I went through things. Part of me wondered if it was time to go, but really it is not at all. Thankfully, a loyal supporter near me in Gainesville decided to put their mouth where their money is and did a little investing and today FloridaHSFootball.com launched its first-ever Mobile App. With that said it comes with the sunset of the MVP Membership Subscriptions and thus FloridaHSFootball.com will be 100% free for the first time in a while. This comes as needing to get the clearances with Apple and Google and the current subscription platform we have is not syncing with Apple's system nor with the App itself. Its best we go in this direction to grow fans again and being able to put them facing forward with an app on their phone going forward. Here are the download links for the apps: iOS (Apple): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/floridahsfootball-com/id6477621728 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floridahsfootball.app&hl=en_US&gl=US   For now the forums will not be available directly in the app. At some point I maybe looking at changing the whole forum software that could eventually integrate into the app. It will be a while before this happens so things will go on as they are here.   I also apologize for any of the spam and troll accounts that have managed to find their way around the security protocols in setting up new accounts. It seems every day these things find ways to pass through control systems. I am going to be looking at getting this solved and will keep an eye on things here as we go along.   Please feel free to reach out to me if you all need anything, want to chat or have any suggestions.   -- Josh
    • They can definitely beat Central. My bulls is a toss up but I feel we should have the edge. EJ will be hard to stop though. Glad they not in 2A with us.
