This FIT thing is an embarrassment to competition. It’s the villain. It runs counter to what every coach in the country should be teaching their kids.

I know the positives are extra games and practices for the younger kids to springboard into next year and giving the seniors one last ride before they hang it up forever, but this is not the way.

Play a bowl game with a local team and then move on

Isn’t basketball and wrestling winter sports? A lot of football players participate in wrestling and some in basketball. Now the burden is on these kids to decide if they “abandon” their football team to move on to the winter sports, or make the winter sport suffer by participating in meaningless and embarrassing exhibitions.

just a shitty idea by incompetent people

2-8 Pensacola has to travel 6 hours to play Dunnellon in the FIT tournament on a Thursday night.  What a great idea.  Maybe they should lawyer up and see if they can get a judge to eliminate them from the playoffs.

Asking this question as respectfully as I can:  what the hell is a 2 win, 8 loss team doing in post-season play?!?!

FHSAA only has the FIT because it makes them more MONEY. Simple as that.

I wonder how they chose these teams and seeded them. Also wonder if any teams straight up told them to hit the road with this participation trophy garbage.

The fact that Palm Bay is playing in the FIT bracket completely defeats the whole purpose of having it to me. Its now pointless in my eyes

Someone please remind me how many member FHSAA member schools there are in football.

My son's team is in the 4A-7A FIT and I don't think there are any truly bad teams in this bracket.  It seems like it would be a better tournament if they either combined 1A-3A with the 4A-7A or Rural FIT bracket.  It's still experimental so maybe FHSAA will make adjustments next year?

As far as why is a 2-8 team in the tournament?  Talking to our coach, you have to opt into the tournament.  There are teams out there who opted out so a 2-8 team had to opt in to agree to travel 6 hrs for a meaningless tournament.  Pensacola HS wants to extend their miserable season for some reason?  Maybe they are young and want some more development time?  I dunno, no way I would have opted in.

My son is a wrestler and the 24th ranked 215 in the state for 3A.  This is definitely going to hurt him initially because wrestling is a really tough sport to jump back into and he will be behind.  The positive is the heavier weight classes (190+) are typically football players so most kids are joining late due to football so it's mostly equal footing catching up.

Now our basketball team is absolutely gutted by this.  They can't even field a team until they get their guys back from football.

That’s horrible: holding the winter sports hostage. This is digusting behavior on the part of the FHSAA. These actions are common with entities that have nothing to lose, and want to sabotage as much as possible before crashing and burning.

The FHSAA doesn’t seem redeemable. It’s time to flush this turd down the toilet and start over

I was informed last night by Heartland Archives that my 4-6 Sarasota Sailors will be playing at Dr. Joachim Garcia in Lake Worth Thursday night at 6:30pm in the UNFIT tournament.  I may sound like a hypocrite but because of my allegiance to my alma mater I will be attending this game.  To think about it, I’ve been deemed unfit quite a few times in my life so this is not a stretch.  I threw away my deteriorating Sailors shirt before I moved to Boca Raton in July.  I’m about to order a new one so I can represent.  ANCHORS AWEIGH!

Maybe this should be called the UNFIT playoffs.  I know someone has said this already.  That was too easy.

At least it gives us a chance to check out Doc Garcia's blue turf.

Yeah homie, it's a real thing! Last year's FIT contest was such a rousing success with Ft. Meade winning it all that it was expanded to the other classes.

As I recall, Ft. Meade entered the tournament at 2-7 and ended their season with a victory and a 6-7  record.

You had to opt out before you knew if you were in or not.   Pensacola probably didn't think they were going to be in so they didn't bother to opt out.  That would be my guess.

What did you expect from the wizards at the fhsaa that whipped this crazy idea up like week four of the season. Instead solving real issue which is cheaters versus non cheaters.

They did with metro suburban and you bitched and moaned about it because you think that only private schools recruit

    • Take the 32 very best teams in Florida over the past four years, teams that are state champions or regional champions of this type. Those are the teams in 6A. Teams that were consistently 2nd or 3rd round teams; they become your 5A teams. Every two years, we would promote/relegate in football. You would take the 4 worst teams in 6A and send them down (teams 28-32), and we would move up the 4 very best teams from 5A or teams (33-36). So I am not sure how good teams would be promoted over elite teams. We are talking the 4 worst out of 32, and the 4 best of 32. So we aren't talking one good season will promote you up.  And yes, large schools could move all the way down to 1A, but they are moving down to 1A because they aren't good. Take one of the worst 4A teams in the state (Jacksonville Englewood). They lost to Paxon, Wolfson, and Stanton. Three solely IB schools. Englewood isn't good. Do you really think the average 1A school would be scared to play them because they are a 4A or complain because they had to play them? Remember the purpose of promotion and relegation is get good schools playing good schools and bad schools playing bad schools. As teams diminish and rise, allowing them to face similar types of teams.
    • Here are the number of privates schools in the 32-team playoff brackets (16 teams in Rural): 7A - 1 6A - 0 5A - 1 4A - 4 3A - 3 Rural - 0 So the mathematical odds favor public schools winning 6 classifications at a minimum.  Public schools are underperforming if they only win 5 championships, all things being equal between public and private schools.  And if all things were equal, the odds of STA winning 7 straight championships is roughly 1 in 2.8 trillion.  Shocker... all things are not equal.  Private schools may not be stealing titles, but they are continually defying the odds, either by random luck or some systemic advantage.
    • They should take @LAZ rankings and @Joshua Wilson rankings and combine them for one super epic ranking. Instead of a room full of zoo animals throwing shit at the wall.
    • Sounds great but what would end up happening is that good but not elite program gets punished for winning and likewise,  as soon as a larger school gets moved down and wins, the others will cry foul.
    • The officiating is what really stood out to me with this game, it wasnt that there was a bang/bang type play that everyone can debate forever about, the deal with the clock was significant in as far as deciding the eventual outcome. Then last night as I watched the Raines/Northwestern game, the 1st thought that came to me was "hmmmm, I know the boyz in Miami like putting money down on these High School games, Im kinda wondering to myself......what player(s) had money bags left at their lockers before the game??????" just sayin
