Andrew Thomas hired as Trinity Catholic football coach

Trinity Catholic athletic director Tommy Bond announced on Wednesday that the school has officially hired Andrew Thomas as the Celtics’ new football coach.

Thomas, who in five years at Trenton High School went 60-5 and led the Tigers to Class 1A state football titles in 2013 and 2015. Thomas spent 2016 and 2017 seasons as coach and athletic director at T.R. Miller High in Brewton, Ala.

Thomas will be the fifth head coach in school history as he takes over for Joe Sturdivant.

Sturdivant coached the Celtics for three years before taking a job in December to coach in the German Professional Football League.

Tigerfan1, I just learned this a few moments ago. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Dennis Marroquin has stepped down from his head coaching position at Champagnat Catholic, per his Twitter.

This one really surprised me. BOL to the young Coach Marroquin .  He had the moxie  that had kids wanting to play from him and appeared to be building Champagnat into a small private power..... He will likely be successful whatever he pursues.

Forest (Ocala, FL): Seven Rivers HS (FL) head coach Rayburn Green has stepped down to become the new head coach at Forest HS.

Hmmmmmm. I'm wondering how the new coach is going to handle Forest with 2,200 students as opposed to Seven Rivers Christian school with 500 students K-5 to 12. Probably no more than 200 to 250 in HS. Although Seven Rivers has a pretty good football team for a 2A school they mostly play other small Christian schools. Forest HS needs something as they have never had a real quality football team in all of the years I have followed them. They even moved down from 7A to 6A and still cannot compete successfully. It's a beautiful facility having been built only a few years ago and has a large roster for the football team. I'm hoping that Coach Green can be successful where others have not been.

Jeff McLean...34 years at Merritt Island.  No coincidence that only 4 public schools have appeared in more playoff games over the years.

Jeff McLean wasn't the head coach for 34 years at Merritt  Island. Gerald Odom won multiple state titles and close to 200 victories at Merritt Island alone.

It technically didn't say that he was the head coach for 34 years there. It said he stepped down after 34 years at Merritt Island

Anthony Davis is the first coach at Tohopekiliga High School (New school opening in Osceola County next year).

It seems like there have been so many newer schools in Osceola County in the recent past... Liberty, Harmony, Gateway, Celebration.  Along with St Cloud, am not sure any of them have set the world on fire.  Does a new school like this really have a reasonable chance of building a winner or is the talent in the area getting diluted.

It seems like, right now, it's going to be a lot harder for schools like Gateway, Harmony and St. Cloud because this new school is going to affect enrollment for all three schools (whether taking kids directly or through re-drawing lines for enrollment). Each of those schools will have a good spurt here or there but not enough to start competing with Osceola High. They're another animal entirely.

st cloud is defintely not a new school.

gateway was built in '85

harmony in 04

celebration around the same time.

liberty was the last new school built there.

this toho school was supposed to open 8 or 9 years ago to help with the infusion of students.  but the 08 bottom falling out of the economy put it in holding pattern.  st cloud was renovated to hold 2100 kids, when the enrollment was already 1900.  they built a new building at gateway and removed some portables, wasnt enough.  they are busting at the seams.

what they did with the rezone lines is what is pure shock.  moved the "BVL" off gateway to the new school, and gave gateway remington neighboorhood back(which has gone to st cloud for about 10 years).

funny how they did nothing to OHS and their zone.....st cloud could drop to 6a, as could gateway in the next redistrict.

    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
