Playoff attendance

Just wondering how attendance was for those of y'all who made it out to games.  I was sorely disappointed with attendance at the PSJ/Cottondale game.  Port St Joe looked to have 400 or so make the 1hr 45min drive to Cottondale, the home team looked to have maybe 250 there.  Had the game been played in PSJ there would have been 3000+.  Just quick gate estimates 5200 vs 24000.  Cottondale gets 3000 for playing at home vs 7000 for playing at PSJ.  I think FHSAA needs to consider attendance in determining home games in the playoffs.  For teams that make it deep into the playoffs money becomes an issue and everyone benefits financially from bigger gates.  Teams that are financially sound will be okay but some of these struggling schools that make a run will be in trouble with small gates.  A run to Orlando can really put a strain on finances.

About 25 people on Dillard side which about around the second quarter and beyond mark it reduced to about 10 and at the start of the 4th Qt it was about 5 or 4 fans left in the stands

Carol city had about 50 to 60 fans come out and about mid way threw the third beginning 4th it reduced to about 25 30 fans for them

wow.  Playoff game under 100 people.

Darterblue I was actually disappointed in the crowd at the Apopka game.  40% their home side is taken up by the band and the dancers and the other 60 % was not full.  They do have a lot of people that watch in the endzone.  I would say there was probably 2500 there.  I was expecting close to 4k.

You're kidding me, right?! Dillard has a home playoff game and only about 25 fans show up? I mean, even if Apopka were really down and/or were playing a scrub team, at least a few hundred would show up for a regular season home game.

So less than 500 dollars gate. How do they even pay the officials?

Not kidding at all Our fans is not loyal or dedicated like they were in the 90s our band is about 200+ members but they left after halftime

i was extremely disappointed & embarrassed as a Dillard fan & supporter to our side with 10 ppl in the second quarter in a 15-0 game which energy & crowd support could b a huge boost in a home game all i can do was Shake my head

True they have a decent size band and an award winning dance troupe. I would say the other 60% was more or less full. Certainly when you add those in the end zone and around the fences, it would amount to full stands if they were there. But I agree, the facility could have held more fans.

Wekiva at Apopka had more fans and even that game did not have as many show up as in some past Wekiva/Apopka games. I think the cost of games in relation to people's economic circumstances may be affecting paid attendance all around. The state finals, for example, with the notable exception of last year, has been drawing fewer individuals over past 7 or 8 years.

Venice home side was full, student section not so much. Away stands for St Pete maybe 100 people. Hour plus drive over the Skyway probably had something to do with it.

This Friday it will be standing room only around the track and both sides filled.

Each week more locals come out the deeper the run. We also will have other kids from neighboring schools who are not playing show up to watch. Parents from other schools I have noticed there as well.

No one will deny their fans a home playoff game especially a team like Cottondale who never make the playoffs. because how much money could PSJ have given Cottondale to give up their gate and offset all the travel?

Attendance is terrible in Florida.

North Florida has better attendance because those schools have been around forever and the people who actually still live up there love and support their team to the fullest.

North Florida is the closest thing to real Friday night lights as you will get in the state.

Fun fact. The Texas 6 MAN state title outdrew the Florida 7A state title with Plant and STA last year

About 4000 dollars more.  They could definitely use the money for stadium improvements.  If they had a good turnout then a home game is worth it but if you don't have fans show up there is no home field advantage, so get the money.

One problem we have with championship attendance is having games on Thursday afternoon etc. I think you would do better not having all games at 1 venue.  Let's face it 4500 people in a 60000 seat stadium is a little sad looking. If you had a couple of smaller regional stadiums and have teams play at the stadium most geographically central to the 2 teams.  Better turnout less cost to teams.

1a should be held at Tiger Stadium

We can hold over 8k people and it's almost dead center on travel for teams in 1a

You all have to come to a Vero Beach home game. Friday it was standing room only as usual.  Olympia had a very small group of followers. But every Vero home game is a capacity crowd. Even our away games we usually have a bigger traveling crowd than the home team that we play has. Our band is one of the largest bands (if not the largest) in the state of Florida and attracts its own crowd to add to the overall crowd.

Very simply, Vero loves their football !!!!

So PSJ could have guaranteed Cottondale $4,000 after paying them an average of what their home gates were for the year, and the cost of gassing up the busses and whatever else comes with that? (Police escort, bus driver, etc)

wow. Big money ballers over there in the Port of Saint Joey!!!!!

Their share of the gate would have been about 4000 more than what they got at home.  Home team gets 2/3 gate and covers paying for officials.  Visitor gets 1/3 of gate.  This is just during playoffs.  Financially it is better for teams that don't draw good crowds to play at teams that have high turnout.

I thought it was split 40/40 with fhsaa getting 20

I think FHSAA does get some of it and I am just going by percentages that someone told me last week which may be off a little, but my overall point that everyone benefits financially from more asses in the seats is the same.  If you can't get a crowd at home your only advantage as a team is not having to travel.
