A number of FL teams have lost 2 state title games by 7 points or less, but only 3 teams have lost 3 or more state title games by 7 points or less.  Who are they?  Of those three teams, who holds the record for most losses by 7 points or less?

Perhaps Dr Phillips?

Godby has 1 such loss

Glades Central has 2 such losses

Another hint...Had this team from north of Orlando won the state title games they lost by 7 points or more, they would be one of only 5 teams in the past 20 years to win six or more state titles.

This team ranks up there with Atlantic as being one of the hardest luck stories in FL finals history.

Not sure if you meant to change it from 7 or less to 7 or more but from your new post I would say Bolles?

Meant 7 or less...it's late.sorry!

Well, Bolles has won more than 6 titles outright over the past 20 years, so it's not them.

Another hint...it's a public school.  Ya'll are gonna kick yourselves when someone finally gets it.

Madison County?

Correct!  Below is a breakdown of the heartbreaking losses of these 3 teams.  Atlantic wins the award for hardest luck, losing 4 state titles games in 6 years by a combined total of 20 points!  Both Atlantic and Madison County have each lost 5 title games over the years.

Delray Beach Atlantic

1973 3A  Haines City 7 Atl 0   Played in Delray Beach; Haines wins its only title in school history

1975 3A  Ocala Forest 14 Atl 9   Played in Delray Beach; Forest wins back-to-back state titles

1976 3A Panama City Bay 11 Atl 10   Played in Ocala; Bay wins its only title in school history

1978 3A Milton 9 Atl 2   Played in Lake City;  Milton wins the first of its back-to-back titles under legendary coach Hurley Mannning

Here are a couple of articles about those teams.  Check out the old-school uniforms.

North Florida schools won 11 of 15 state title games versus south Florida schools in the 1970's.

Madison County

1998 4A Glades Central 33 MC 28   MC was up 28-14 with 7 minutes left; GC scores 3 TD's, including a 30 yd desperation pass with 20 seconds left to win

2004 2A Immokalee 17 MC 15      Immokalee hit 42 yd field goal with 3 minutes left to win

2012 3A University School 24 MC 17   MC blows 17-0 lead; University scores 4th qtr TD to go ahead and stops MC on deep drive to end the game

Armwood

2005 4A Nease 44 Armwood 37   Nease up 41-22 entering the 4th quarter; Tim Tebow and Nease hold on

2012 4A Lincoln 17 Armwood 14    Armwood up 14-7 entering the 4th quarter; Lincoln ties it and then hits 37 yd FG with 4 seconds left to win

Madison County has had some brutal opponents  In addition to the 3 above, they lost to Chaminade  27-0(2003 2A) and American Heritage Delray 30-3(2011 3A).  Beat Clewiston in 2001 (21-14) and Tampa Catholic in 2007 (28-7).  And, of course, this past season's win.

The lower classes were so competitive in the past.  Anyone who was around 10+ years ago knows what I am talking about.
