This well-known player helped his south Florida team win a state championship in the late 1980's.  In the state semifinals that year, he broke the state record for the most rushing yards in a Florida playoff game.  He later played for Auburn and then in the Canadian Football League.  He returned to south FL to coach at the high school level and now coaches in the NCAA.

Otis Mounds?

Gatorman got it.  It is Otis Mounds!

The late 1980's were a special time in Broward County football.  Dillard won the 1986 4A title...the first title won by a Broward County public school since Hollywood Hills did it back in 1973.  From 1987-1990, Dillard and Ely met each year in the regional playoffs.

In 1989, Otis Mounds led Dillard to the 4A title with 40-14 win against Merritt Island and a 13-1 season.  Other than their regional playoff game versus Ely, the rest of their playoff games were easy wins of 20 points or more.  .

In Dillard's 1989 rain-soaked 27-7 state semi win over Auburndale(played in Auburndale), Otis Mounds ran for a state playoff-record 294 yards on 20 carries. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior scored touchdowns on runs of 21, 31 and 60 yards.

Mounds finished the season with nearly 1900 yards of rushing and averaged about 7 yards per carry.  After completing a four-year career at Auburn as an RB/DB, Mounds played one season in the Canadian Football League and 4 seasons in the Arena Football League.

From 2005-2009, he coached at Coral Springs Charter (head coach) and St Thomas Aquinas (secondary).  He is now a defensive coach at the University of Akron.

I found the following on the internet.  Forgive the poor quality but we're talking nearly 30 years ago.
