Below is a list of all of the major hs football programs in Miami-Dade.  Considering its huge population and sheer number of schools, there are relatively few programs  of late that consistently turn in strong performances season after season.  Central has done it, but few others.  Clearly there is fierce competition, which can affect records.

Is this inconsistency the new norm?  Or is it a sign that M-D's public school programs are struggling in some way?

From 1991-2007, Miami public schools won the state title in FL's largest classification 11/17 years.  In the past 10 years, Miami-Dade schools have won it 3 times, and if not for a late TD by Southridge in 2016, that number would be 2.  Is M-D's reign of dominance in the big class coming to an end and is central FL taking over?

Strong Public Schools Programs  (based on past 5-10 seasons)

4A Booker T (losing season in 2017-trending downward?)

6A Carol City (losing season in 2014)

6A Central

8A Coral Gables (losing season in 2017-trending downward?)

7A Doral Academy (0-10 in 2013 and 5-4 in 2014)

6A Northwestern (2013-2015 combined record of 15-16)

8A South Dade (losing season 2016)

8A Southwest (losing season in 2017- trending downward?)

8A Southridge (losing seasons in 2012 and 2014, 6-4 in 2017)

Well if Miami Central, Northwestern, Carol City, and Norland were in the largest class the number would be higher

Most those publics you listed haven't been good in a while so honestly the main reason that Miami hasn't won more in the largest class is because their better teams are in 6a

Who as the better "Top 5," Orlando or Miami-Dade?

8A Orlando Area-Apopka, Osceola, Seminole, Wekiva, Winter Park

8A Miami-Dade-Coral Gables, Miami High, South Dade, Southwest. Southridge

Orlando

You could say the same thing about duval county

The only public who is consistently successful is raines

Sure ribault and sandalwood has a few good years but overall the public schools are weak

Even if you have large metros the talent is never evenly distributed and it's usually only a few schools who rack up talent

So I have to ask - of those schools listed, which ones keep a head coach and which ones are constantly changing coaches?

Columbus-Chris Merritt-17 seasons-1 final appearance

Monsignor Pace-Joe Zaccheo-15 seasons-1 state title

Booker T Washington/Miami-Tim Harris-10 seasons-3 state titles

Norland-Daryle Heidelburg-9 seasons-1 state title

South Dade-Nate Hudson Jr-6 seasons-1 title

Miami Central-Roland Smith-5 seasons

Palmetto/Miami-Mike Manasco-4 seasons

Northwestern-Max Edwards-3 seasons

Carol City-Benedict Hyppolite-1 season

Miami-Zach Gardner-0 seasons

Southridge-Sedrick Irvin-0 seasons

And why is Dr. Phillips missing from the Orlando five? They are a rival, but have been consistently been one of the three best area teams for years now!

my bad...early dementia for sure who should they replace?

So this includes Orange County, Osceola County,  and Seminole County versus Miami Dade County?

in terms of population, that's about right. Miami/Dade County is a good deal bigger than Orange County.

so who gets your call, Dade or Orlando?

When Central, Northwestern and Norland were in 8A, Dade. Currently, I would give a slight edge to the Orlando area. I am, frankly, surprised that no 8A Miami School has stepped in to fill the void by attracting talent from the high talent 6A schools there. Perhaps with Sedric Irvin now at Southridge, they will be the ones. We shall see!

Yes.  I believe the total number of high schools in those three counties is the same or maybe even slightly less than in Dade County alone.

Southwest was 39-15 from 2012-2016.  Which 8A Dade team has been more consistent over this time frame?

Public school, not sure I can find one that consistent but if you are from SFL you should know that Southwest plays in arguably the worst 8A District in the state. Belen Jesuit is the only team with a pulse in that 8-15 district.  Unless you feel beating Ferguson, Braddock, Coral Reef and Varela  are not consistent, easy Ws....  I can't argue with those numbers but tell me how their season ends every year with that "winning" record?

How is Southwest record versus other 8A Publics or any publics for that matter outside their District?

What is Southwest postseason record in that super 39-15, 2012- 2016 run?

NW and Central have been 6A for ages.  So, in 2011, they went from being in the largest class "down" to 6A.  It has been 10 years since Norland was in the largest class (6A at the time).

Are there more 8A schools in Miami Dade or Seminole, Osceola, and Orange County?

Probably more in the Orlando area. But that is mostly due to the fact that all the public schools except for: Jones, Lake Nona and Edgewater in Orange, and Lake Howell and Hagerty in Seminole are in 8A. Now Osceola does have more non 8A public schools than 8A. But it is the smallest of the three counties population wise.

In Miami/Dade, a fairly large number of the public schools are in lower classifications.

It is essentially comparing Dade County 8A to the top 8A teams in 2 FHSAA Regions. Regions 1 and 2.

Sure, when I referenced 8A, I meant largest class. Once Central, Northwestern in particular, and you can add Norland and Carol City, no longer played in the largest class that presented an opening for the Orlando area.

To be honest, though, Central Florida in recent times has a much better track record in Basketball, winning titles both in the larger classes (public schools) and smaller classes, private schools. It is only in the last then to fifteen years that the Orlando area has become consistently competitive in football.

The comparison would make more sense if he included Dade/Broward 8A public schools with the Orlando area public schools. The two areas probably comprise about 75% of all the 8A schools as only Palm Beach County elsewhere has a decent number.
