Based on some research and info gathering i was able to single in on the most desperate programs in the state

I used a point system to assign points to teams, if anyone is interested in seeing how the points were assigned let me know and I'll post it

Without further adieu here are the rankings based on the teams i included in the research

Also if anything is incorrect let me know and I'll fix it

Also if someone wants me to do a rating for a specific team let me know but I wasn't going to do it for every team, i only did enough so you all can get a general feel for the pressure on certain programs opposed to others to win a championship

If there's any you all want me to do let me know

How did you come up with your points ranking? Some of the teams you listed suck and some are decent to very good most years.

For teams who have won a championship

# of years since championship X 4

+

# of years since last finals appearance X 2

+1 for every year since last  playoff appearance

+10 for every 5 years of making playoffs without a championship

For teams who haven't made state finals

50 points +1 for every year since last playoff appearance

For teams who have made state finals but never won

# of years since last appearance X 2

+25

this is the point system i used

For example if a team last won a championship in 1997 then i would add up the number of years since then and multiply by 4

so 80

if the last appearance at state was 2007 then i add the years since and multiply by 2

so 20

up to 100 points now,  if they made playoffs this past year i add 0 so it stays 100

then i add 10 points for every 5 years of playoff appearances since the championship

if they made playoffs 10 times in that stretch i add 20 points to make it 120 for total score

if they made only 9 times i only add 10 so it would be 110 total score

it's kinda complicated until you have to do it for like 40 schools then it becomes easier each time lol

Desperate?  Try going 49-1 in the regular season over a 5 year span and only getting past the 2nd round of the playoffs once.  Or having an unbeaten team that beats a team that made the finals, but nothing to show for it because school officials decided to play as an independent.

Desperate as in desperate to win a championship

The programs on here have either never won a championship or have not won it in the past 18 years or more

Whenever you haven't won a title or have a long drought there is ton of pressure to break the drought and by definition I gave it a label of desperate because everyone on this list (and more not listed) all have droughts they want to break not only for the fan base but for the program as a whole

That's also why i said if anyone wants to see a specific teams rankings under these points let me know and I'll post it but i didn't want to do entire state at once lol

There is, always has been, and always will be “desperation “ by teams.

I noticed a team like STA is not on this list and considering they have one a lot in recent years they probably have a low amount of points in your system.  I’ll go out on a limb and say they have a much higher probability to get back to and win states more so then anybody on this list.

They do have a higher probability but just for fun

St Thomas Aquinas (12)

Being that they are just 2 years removed from a championship they won't by definition have the same level of desperation compared to teams on the list (even though they probably have a high expectation for it)

I selected all teams who had either won prior to 2000 or have never won a championship

Sad thing is if the teams at Columbia played with the same level of desperation and same level of seriousness that I take things we would have more than 8 total championships school wide in the 100 years of the programs history

We ain't like Jacksonville where we can just jump into a pro franchise and a nightlife to the point where going to a high school game is just 1 of 500 events happening in a week

We ain't like Gainesville or Tallahassee where we can just latch on to a college that has a name and success year round, those cities don't care about high school

When you have a major university like those 2 cities have the high school team is just a high school because the only athletics getting any real attention is the colleges

Due to mismanagement in Lake City the only thing that this city has going positive for it is a high school, that's desperation my friend

I don't know. Your coach seems to have led the Tigers pretty well since 2011 with excellent years in 2012, 2013, and 2015. Columbia is in with some tough teams in 7A and it's rough to get through all of those playoff rounds. What do you feel that the coaches need to do to raise the team's prospects for a championship? This is assuming that most years you have a few very talented players on the team that can propel a run at the championship.

The problem is though that we lose to beatable teams

Hell since 2012 we were knocked out by teams we were favored over 5 times out of 6

I think we need to face better teams

Specifically ones who have speed like we would face in the playoffs

Maybe a team like lakeland, mainland, cocoa, wekiva

Only so much playing teams inside our 2 hour window will get us,  no team we play will be enough to be ready for a team like sta (not in talent or athleticism)

Gotta take a step back and define success criteria for the football program.  There are metrics more important than state titles.

How well has Columbia prepared its players for college play(physically, mentally, emotionally)?  ...for other careers for players who won't be playing beyond high school?.

A program can do a very good job of those things without winning a bunch of titles...although titles are nice.

Yes i agree and we have

If we were just losing to teams like Lakeland, Plant, Miami Central, St Thomas Aquinas, ect and those were the type of teams keeping us from a championship i could live with that

What Im not ok with is teams like bartram trail, Navarre, Lee and Lincoln being what's keeping us from going further

Columbia has same issue as Vero...defense

You cannot win championships averaging 21+ points allowed in your games.  Look at your past 3 seasons.

You need to be at about 14.  Check Dr Phillips..averaged about 11 points allowed per game last year.  Venice averaged about 15, and that includes game with IMG.

Hard to not give up points when offense goes 3 and out over and over again

2013 against Bartram Trail is a perfect example of this, if only someone had filmed that game

great excuse for defensive players..if they can't keep up, they need to get in shape

It's not excuse it's facts

Offense has to carry their own share and in these playoff games the offenses look cold as ice

I remember the Lee game, those offensive guys looked completely lost for most of the game

Yes defense has to improve but they wouldn't have given up as many points if the offense would do it's share of the job

"Hard not to give up points"..that's an opinion  ...so life's unfair, Defense.  You need to make extra stops this game...too bad.  Defense needs to be worried about D and nothing else.

Go back and watch these playoff games and you tell me if offense did a "good job"

Best offense in Columbia history they say

We going to state they say

23 bloody points the best this offense can do? Smh

2013

30 point favorites and best running back in the area

Only score 24 points and to add on also threw a pick 6

I never sit there wanting to rip my hair out from what defense is doing, offense i do it regularly because i sit there wondering what the hell is wrong with them

I suggest you watch Lincoln game from this past year, it's free to watch and it's on NFHS Network

When the offense wastes drives like they did in this game you really can't blame just the defense

Like i saw what had to have been 10 or more times they called a swing pass to the running back

Or better yet why do you leave the best running back on the sideline as you are (keeping him healthy for round 2)

Then you decide last drive to throw him in,  he could have been used a heck a lot sooner
