Glades Central vs Private Schools - Playoff Rivalries

Glades Central has a long history of facing private schools in the playoffs over the past 50 years.  The Raiders have played private schools 27 times, and won 22 of those games.  They are 17-0 at home in the Muck.  Their biggest rivals have been Chaminade, who they played 5 times,  and Monsignor Pace, who they played 9 times.  Those two teams were quite strong when Central was playing them, and both fell to Central numerous times.  St Thomas, Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, American Heritage Plantation, Gulliver, Belen, Tampa Catholic...all have fallen to the Raiders over the years.

Yeah but teams change over time

Sure teams like Cardinal Gibbons and AHP weren't elite a decade or 2 ago but back then there were others who took their place

Elite teams change over time,  Ely and Miami Killian used to be powerhouses

Hello Boys, IMMMM BAAAACK :D

Yes, we have a long history with crushing private schools. True, Glades Central hasnt been the same team for awhile, but we still have this reputations.

We fear no team!

American Heritage plantation wants to play we wont avoid them.... Just like we're not ducking Cocoa this year. Win lose or draw we will play the best!

We didnt lay down to Deerfield and we were expected to be beaten 49-0 by some critics. Gc didnt look to bad having 30 kids against 70+ strong with Deerfield.

Im aware Gc didnt look to good up front, but best believe thats not being over look.

...just a thought.  For many years the public schools got the best of the private schools, so the latter probably don't feel badly about having the upper hand for now.  Schools like Cardinal Gibbons and Chaminade have been doormats for much of their existence.

Glades Central was as dominant in the 1970's and 1990's as some of these private schools are now.  Everyone has their time in the sun.  Let folks enjoy it.  As history has taught us, it normally doesn't last forever.

And I can respect that.. That’s the mentality I know a lot of schools down here have! Don’t COMPLAIN about how much “so call stars” other schools have.. They strap me up and leave it on the field.. The muck always have my respect !!!

To be real, Our fans needed that badly! We took some beating  over the years. Myself and im sure Muckboy561 can back me up on this. We are happy to have Coach Hester back. We didnt win the big one ,but He's pushing our boys in the right direction not just as players but as men.  Raider Pride is back!  Lets just hope the fans know we wont win it all, A state title may or may not come but we need to stick with who we have and just be fans!

We will one day go back to

Claim Palm Beach County

Claim our Muck Bowl Trophy

Claim our 7th State Champion

Why.... BECAUSE WE'RE GLADES CENTRAL!!!

ya'll might enjoy reading this below...your history...Al Werneke, a legendary Florida coach who won back-to-back titles at Central and Titusville, brought Central to prominence about 50 years ago.

MANY years ago, there were some great rivalries in Florida.  One of those was the Belle Glade Central vs Chaminade rivalry.  Back then, there were only a few classes, and schools didn’t shift nearly as frequently.  The way the playoff brackets were arranged, it was not uncommon for certain teams to face off against each other year after year, allowing for some great rivalries to develop.  Chaminade was a small, all-boys school with a strong program and “played up” in class.  Glades was a tough team from the Muck.  Here’s a description of those games.

Glades won the regional title 18-16 at home in 1969 before 4000 fans.

Chaminade won the regional title 26-13 in 1970 at Hollywood McArthur stadium.

Glades won the regional title at home in 1971 with a 31-0 victory and went on to win the state title.

Glades won the regional title 20-6 in 1972 at South Broward Stadium before 2500 fans and then went on to win the state title.

Chaminade won the regional title 15-13 in 1974 at South Broward Stadium and eventually advanced to the state title game. David Shula played on that team.  Yep, that Shula.  This was an infamous game, as there was a riot on the field after the game ended.  There was a police helicopter with searchlight flying overhead and police dogs on the field.  Multiple police officers and fans were injured in the melee.  There was such bedlam that police officers had difficulty figuring out who was fighting and who was trying to quell things.

    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
