The District and Region predictions for the 2018 season. I have only done 8A and 7A. The other classes will be done later on this week and will be under this post. I’ll probably get some bad comments but it’s what I think of this season.

Not a perfect list but not horrible either

Most of those look right,  i would personally switch a few but looks good

I'll look into 8a tomorrow but I'll start with 7a now

I personally like Buchholz or Fleming Island in d3, Bartram Trail will take a step back. I see them as playoff team but as a wild card

Viera isn't as strong as last year but should be able to win their District

I see Tampa Bay Tech winning d9

And Doral Academy would have been good pick a few months ago but they probably won't make .500 with how much they lost

The rest look right though

I'll comment on 8a after doing some more research

Is Viera in that district or the one with Melbourne?

St Cloud district is bad but they still have no chance of winning it.  Here is how I have that district.  Lake Nona could be a sleeper and should easily win that district

1. Lake Nona

2. Harmony

3. East River

4. Liberty

5. St Cloud

6. Windermere

7. Celebration

Guessing Lake Nona probably only team with any chance to get past first round in that district?

Brenden, I doubt Lake Mary beats Seminole for District 3. Nothing's impossible, but Seminole has a lot more talent in my opinion.

I'm not against the Lake Mary pick.  Scott Perry has done a good job there and it's a nice upset pick.  They have a punchers chance but I would have also taken Seminole.

Here's the problem I see for Lake Mary: they don't match up well against Seminole. Last year, I too, thought they had a chance. And pretty much the same team they will be facing with a year's more experience handled them with ease.

Strange things happen sometimes, but I would be surprised if LM beats Seminole this year.

Monarch over Deerfield in 8A D11?

What's the thought process behind this?

Darter,

Still on the 2018 Seminole bandwagon I see. Well if they have a great season, I’ll be sure to make it known that you called it back in December. Hope you’re doing well. Sure wish I could join you and Dan this Friday but I have some pressing issues that must be met head on. Talk to you soon.

What was reason(s) behind Lake Mary's dropoff in 2015 and 2016?

Not sure cause the years run together, but LM had one hell of a good multi year starting dual threat QB and two big gifted wide receiver all graduate about that same time. They could move the ball, run the clock, and put points on the board. Maybe they had gone on to college by '15,'16... Help me out Darter :)

I am. They had a lot of talent last year and if it returns Seminole should be a very good team. Go get through the issues quickly and successfully. Mainland/Apopka should be a fun game whichever way it goes.

A couple of their kids transferred to OC University and they also graduated a few. Last year, I actually liked their offense and, as I stated in my post, gave them a solid shot at beating Seminole. But they did not. Truth is last year LM was an up and down team. They beat a solid OC University team easily when state champs DP struggled against them and Seminole lost against them. But then lost to Seminole without putting up much of a fight and were in a dogfight with a pedestrian Lake Brantley team.

Maybe they take District this year, but unless they have a lot of talent coming in, I don't think they will.

Fleming Island lost a TON and Buchholz will be a decent team like usual. Bartram didn’t lose enough to not repeat in that district.

I watched them in the spring, either our defense is several tiers better than last year or they aren't close to same offense as last year

They managed 2 field goals in the nearly 3 quarters with starters playing,  that Bartram offense won't be as explosive and the defense still has trouble in secondary

On the plus side the running back for bartram looked good, they might need to run the ball quite a bit this year

Bartram Trail had the luxury of having two D-1 quarterbacks for multiple years. Maybe they have another in the pipeline to go along with their good stable coaching staff. I doubt any single newcomer at QB can replicate the firepower of the two departing seniors. Defensively, having seen them three years in a row 15,16,17, I was never that impressed. Their pass coverage in particular was weak. Let the season begin....time will answer all questions.

Their secondary isn't much better in the spring then they been past 3 years, last year they seemed better on DL which didn't look as good in the spring game against us

The qbs they have are decent but not at the level of the 2 who just graduated

RB looked good

OL and WR probably similar to what they been lately but unless the qb takes huge steps i don't see them coming close to offense production of last year

From what I've seen with Buchholz they have a solid qb and talented receivers which is a matchup advantage against Bartram Trail secondary which doesn't do well against receivers with speed on the outside in man to man coverage

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
