You're probably right, but its still the panhandle and we all know that nobody can take the panhandle schools seriously. The good panhandle schools always dominate in the regular season but get destroyed in the playoffs.

I am speaking about the large school classifications.

The panhandle has struggled lately in the large school classifications

I don't see it getting better but it can keep getting worse

The panhandle just isn't built the same way they were in 80s and 90s

Agreed. I've been around for a long time and it's been really bad for the past decade at least. The crazy thing is that the fan support in the panhandle is much better than in central and south florida.

I think you all are assuming sta just suddenly shakes off last year

That qb doesn't look that impressive and while i was impressed with the defensive line that sta has i don't see this team being this top 5 national team you all are trying to make them

For them to be top 5 nationally they would need to be at level of 2015 or 2016 teams and i don't see this team at that level

Who is saying that?   Is Dwyer top 5 nationally?

I would love to see Dwyer vs Atlantic this week on TV

Apparently sta playing Dematha is ESPN worthy but Central vs Cardinal Gibbons, AHP vs Carol City and Dwyer vs Atlantic isn't

Some serious logic geniuses over at ESPN these days

So you think Dwyer vs Atlantic is more relevant than STA vs Dematha?

Yes

People hyped Dematha to be a important game because it was oos game

Dematha wasn't same team last year and there is no guarantee they are going to be the national elite team they were in the past

I rather see 2 SFL teams play then some overhyped oos game

It must be you thinking that deep down lol.   In your subconscious haha.    I was just stating that you think very highly of Dwyer to have them in the semis.

I think Dwyer is a good team and i think people would see them as a more serious threat if they weren't drinking sta koolaid and assuming sta is GUARANTEED to rebound and roll to 20 straight championships over the "garbage" in 7a

Of course Dwyer is a threat.  Maybe they do beat STA, but your predictions reflect your feelings too much lol.   You at least gotta hide it a bit more.

Was it painful to do that?:)

Not really

By having them that high then i can dispel claims of bias

My personal and professional opinion of sta is 2 different things, i can put bias aside in my rankings

Now sometimes some teams i see end up getting ranked higher than in other polls but only because i end up seeing something through personal eye test that sells me on them being better than most places rank them

I'm just a message board poster who likes to make polls lol

I gain nothing from low balling a team in my polls

Is the coaching in the Panhandle not what it used to be?

Don't think it has much to do with coaching. It's more of a talent thing. There are definitely talented kids in the panhandle but not in the same quantity as other parts of the state. There might even be better coaching in the panhandle. I'm not sure about that though.

Alot of schools in central to south Florida have so many athletes (whether it's from transfers or whatever the case) that they don't mesh well, but they are sooo talented that they make up for mistakes. Panhandle schools can't do that.

so he puts them 3 so people can't claim bias but he really wants to put them like 13.  You over rank teams you tend to know more about (aka play Columbia)

Don't worry badbird.  Another 10 state titles and I think STA will be a solid #2.

The 2 teams above them in the rankings (Miami Carol City and Miami Central) both were at 1 and 2 in preseason and both won convincingly over 2 teams who are probably top 10 in state

I not gonna drop those 2 for winning convincingly over AHP and Cardinal Gibbons respectively just because St Thomas Aquinas beat up on some team from the Northeast

If Carol City or Central lose then STA will rise but while those 2 are undefeated STA will settle for third in FL

    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
    • Ocala Vanguard https://x.com/VanguardFB/status/1772951193179840761?s=20
    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
