The Noles and the Canes Don't Represent

In some cases, when our state universities lose, we get beat by our own players, ie high school players from Florida who got recruited OOS.  Was curious if that was the case in our two miserable losses this weekend...as if that might be some consolation.  It's not.  As you'll see below, Virginia Tech and LSU have relatively few players on their rosters from FL. 

I've mentioned in other posts that Louisiana is loaded with talent, and this is proof of it.  Like Alabama, LSU recruits of lot of in-state players...players from no-name high schools, some of whom may be a bit underrated because of it.  The state of Louisiana has 126 hs players rated 3-star or above right now.  And LSU has 64 players on their roster right now from Lousiana.  Either LSU is getting a huge percentage of their in-state talent, or there are a lot more than 126 FBS players in the state of Louisiana.  

Many of us don't think of Virginia as a big football state, but VA Tech has always made a point of recruiting in-state talent, and done an amazing job with what they get.     

VA Tech has 117 players on their roster.  55 are from Virginia.  8 are from FL.  2 are starters, Jarrod Hewitt, NT from Venice, and Kyle Chung, LG from Ponte Vedra.  

LSU has 119 players on their roster.  64 are from Louisiana.  4 are from FL.  1 is a starter, John Battle, a safety from Hallandale.

57% of FSU's players are from Florida and 70% of the Canes' players are from Florida.

From what I saw with both FSU and Miami was a lack of fundamentals not lack of athleticism.  Poor tackling, penalties,  not blocking, really bad special teams play, etcetera.  This reflects on coaching.

Well for my canes no qb.. Still lacking on depth and we need a true O.C.

With all of the talent here in the state of Florida. I have always felt that the 3 big teams in Florida should always be in the top 10. With the exception of that one down year one of the big three got hit hard by graduation or something like that one might fall to 7-5 or 8-4. But the big 3 in Florida should always be in the national championship conversation. Like the early to mid 90's.

Per capita, Hawaii does an amazing job of producing quality football players.  The qb at St john's who will be playing Central this weekend is from Hawaii, and some believe him to be the best junior qb in the country.

Exactly correct. Happens in a lot of states. One of the best RB's from Cocoa never played a down of College ball that I know of. You could wrap him up and he would still get 3 yards. I watched him drag 2 big D-linemen 2 or 3 yards for first downs a few times. Antwan Lee, he wasn't big, but he had heart, was fast and had skillz. Too bad he was backup to Tarean Folsten, who started at ND.  In my humble opinion, Lee was better than Folsten. However Folsten had honor grades, and I think Lee struggled with grades.
