Who Is This FL HS Legend in the Photo? Daunte Culpepper

It is Daunte Culpepper, who played for Ocala Vanguard back in the early 1990's.  This photo was taken at the 1994 5A state semis, which was played in Ocala.  Culpepper and former NFL receiver Kenny Clark led the Knights to a 41-14 victory over Merritt Island.  Following that victory, Vanguard lost a 19-17 heartbreaker to USA Today #1 ranked Bradenton Southeast in the 5A finals when their field goal kicker missed a 24-yard field goal on Vanguard's last drive.  That Southeast team was led by another legend, Peter Warrick, who played qb in that game.  Can you imagine those guys on the field at the same time?

Culpepper passed for more than 6000 yards and 57 touchdowns during his career.  He went on to smash records at UCF before moving on to a successful career in the NFL.

1994 is the only year in school history that Vanguard ever made it past the third round of the playoffs.

Had the pleasure of being there (Daytona) and watching that classic championship. Daunte was a BIG quarterback. Great game...
