Willie taggart against Dillard in Gainesville for the state title

It is Willie Taggart, current head coach at FSU.  Taggart led 13-1 Bradenton Manatee to the 1992 5A title game in Gainesville, where they defeated Dillard.  The photo above was taken at that game.  Taggart threw for 2 TD's and rushed for a third.  Manatee took out Dixie Hollins, Apopka and Orange Park in the playoffs that year.

In 1993, Taggart led Manatee past Apopka in the state semis, but fell short to Miami Southridge in the 5A title game.  After high school, Taggart starred as a qb and earned All-American honors at 1-AA Western Kentucky.

Before becoming head coach at FSU, he served as head coach at Western Kentucky, USF and Oregon.   Good job, nolebull!

Hell, Manatee got their collective asses handed to them in that 1993 state championship game 69-36 against Southridge, so I dont know how you get "came up short" The player Wille's handing off to in your picture was Shevin Wiggins who went on to play at Nebraska......Shevin may have been voted the player of the year if my memory serves me right. Manatee's 1992 championship team wasn't as physically imposing as its previous championship teams. Orange Park should have beaten Manatee, but Sammy Hixson 95 yard INT for a TD  turned that game completely around and Willie and Shevin took the game over with a couple of late TD's to seal the win. The Championship game against Dillard was just a simple case of a Dillard team with superior talent and size but was very poorly coached.

I try to be tactful.:)  Note I didn't include any scores.  We have some sensitive types on here who might go off the deep end if someone talked about their team getting crushed. LOL

Not to take anything away from Southridge's state title, but that game was a nightmare! I think Southridge had two kickoff returns for a TD, a blocked punt for a TD. Southridge had Lamont Green and the Davis brothers on that team..........Don Solinger has a helluva a coach and had Southridge as a state power both times he was there in no time at all.

Southridge was such a powerhouse back in the 80's.  They had some fantastic wrestlers who also played football.  And then after Soldinger they got Guandolo.  Not a bad second act.
