Final Playoff Points Update of the Season

Joshua Wilson

Last year in 4A, there was 1 team in the playoffs with a losing record.  As it stands today, there would be 5.  Below are the records of the extra 8 teams that would be entering this year if these were the final points.

2-5 Rutherford

3-5 Jacksonville Jackson

5-5 South Sumter

4-5 Dunnellon

7-2 Labelle

5-4 Lake Placid

6-3 Gulliver Prep

4-5 Key West

7-2 is not bad!:D

He also fails to mention that one of those 4-5 teams is Miami Washington

Funny because considering that many view BTW as being far superior to teams with much prettier records

BTW is likely still top 50 in FL even with 5 losses,  there's a reason for that

There are some pretty terrible teams making the playoffs in 1A, 2Aand 3A.

Holy smokes. This playoff format sucks. These teams are garbage. This is a joke. These classes are so watered down. We are a laughing stock of the country.

Laughing stock?

FL is still a powerhouse state and has so many programs that don't fear oos teams

After all we only power state with the guts to have teams play IMG

The South bracket in 4A is stronger again this year all around while Raines looms for the winner in the North.

Not so sure BTW beats University, but I would never count BTW out even with a 5-5 record with the way they schedule. University's schedule was way softer and it will be interesting watching University vs Chaminade this weekend. Chaminade has had some tough games and it will fun to see what kind of program University really is.

The way I see it is BTW, Cocoa, or University will see Raines in the 4A championship game.

They need to move cocoa into the north to protect 4a, especially if raines ends up having 5a enrollment next cycle

re-donkulious....

lake nona and liberty both tied in 7a at 37.2 points.

liberty with 7-2 record, will win their last game vs cat 4 team and go 8-2, will get 35 points for the win

lake nona with a 6-3 record, will lose their last game vs cat 1 team and go 6-4, will get 38 points for the loss.

lake nona will make the playoffs, despite liberty beating them 62-28 in the regular season....

just another way the points system is failing.....

anyone can lose a game, vs a power house or on any friday vs a cat 4 team.  its high school kids were talking about, 1 may have a poopy stomach and cant run the ball, the other may be because of injuries....

shouldnt get more points for a loss, than any win.

have said this to many a folk,

what happens when a team has a small district, the 3 other teams are as solid as possible and all end up with similar 8-2,9-1,10-0 records.  but team d in the equation loses to all 3, plus the other 6 studs it scheduled...

0-10, 38 points for each loss, avg 38 points in the system

they will make it in,

bottom line is,  losses should not count for more than wins, period.  doesnt matter who they are too.

And if teams would stop trying to game the system to sneak in they wouldn't have to do that

A team like St Joseph for example in 3a

They are playing the weakest teams they could find but probably wouldn't beat any of the playoff teams in their region and will be 1 and done after they get a bye into 2nd round

To liberty's defense,  they have a 7 team district that is not very good and an annual county rivalry game with poinciana who is very bad. Leaving them with only 2 open slots to schedule a better team,  very few good teams or teams trying to reach the playoffs will take a chance because of that.

I get that Liberty may not exactly fit that criteria of the teams I'm putting on blast

I'm just saying that teams out there doing what I'm describing is what hurts a school like Liberty because the fhsaa had to change the points to make sure teams weren't going to game the system (like Wildwood last year or St Joseph to a extent this year)

Liberty need South Lake to beat East Ridge and that bumps them up a tier and give them 5 points. They also need Boone to lose to Edgewater.  If Boone beats Edgewater they bump a tier and give Nona 5 points.  Liberty is going to get in unless South Lake loses or Boone wins.

south lake should beat east ridge, i think south lake has to win to make it (off the top of my head).

The top of 7A Region 2 should be interesting. Viera could finish anywhere from 1-4. They would need some help to move up to 1. and the teams they are counting on have some pretty tough games. Lakeland is locked in at 1 or 2 with Plant at 2 or 3 and Harmony at 3 or 4. I'm expecting it to work out to 1. Lakeland 2. Viera 3. Plant 4. Harmony 5. Sickles 6. Kathleen 7. Wiregrass Ranch 8. Lake Nona

Since Lakeland has no game this week, it should be fun just to sit back and watch.

I just told you Liberty should get in.  What did I miss

Who would they knock out? I think they can only max out at a 38 point average.

nona,

liberty wins

boone loses(which is a good 90% chance)

south lake wins(puts them up  a category and gives liberty more points)

nona will lose to weikiva

Lake Nona and Liberty also have St. Cloud in the mix, who plays Discovery. St. Cloud should win that game. It would move them up to a Category 3 win for both.

I have Lake Nona edging Liberty 38.3 - 38.0. With the following happening....

Lake Nona loses to Wekiva (38 points)
Liberty beats Lake Region (35 points)
Boone loses (Cat 3 win for Nona)
St. Cloud wins (Cat 3 win for Nona & Liberty)
South Lake Wins (Cat 3 win for Liberty)

Also, with Liberty winning, it will move that up to a Cat 1 loss for Lake Nona and increase their total by 5 pts.
