All HS Teams Make the Playoffs in Kentucky, Indiana & Missouri

Kentucky has 6 classes and approximately 32 teams in each class.  Every team makes the playoffs.    Below are the district standings for all of those teams.  And we think Florida is bad with one winless team making the playoffs.  Kentucky has 10!  Needless to say, they have some big blowouts in the first round.  31 of 93, or one-third of their first round games were decided by 40 or more points.

All teams also make the playoffs in Missouri and IndianaEach of those states had 17 winless teams in the playoffs this year, not to mention a bunch of 1-9 teams.

Maybe we should allow all teams in FL in the playoffs.  Seedings could all be determined by coin flips ( I got this idea from badbird)B).  Home field advantage could be determined by the amount of "effort points" accrued during the regular season (we could have an app and fans at each game could vote on effort observed).  In the case of a tie in effort points, the team with less transfers during the prior year would get home field advantage.

Seriously folks, I don't ever remember hearing complaints of the "wrong" teams" getting in the playoffs when we had bigger districts and district champions/runners-up got in.  If we don't like bigger districts, we have to deal with the consequences of these decisions being made off the field.

Happy Sunday all!

I still prefer rock paper scissors competition to determine seeding.  Each team send a team captain to Gainesville  and we could broadcast it on Sunday and make a TV event of it

They tried it many years ago but gave up when kids from certain counties couldn't grasp the concept that paper covers rock.

If all teams make the playoffs, why even bother to have a regular season? We can just start with the playoffs with seeding to be determined based on the prior year's form.

Reason we got small districts is some schools can't handle a little travel

Ya know, seems EXACTLY like what many want to do with college football. :(

Would be great for TV ratings. But I think more computer rankings should be used for the seeding. Would make for great TV too. You could project all of the data points, maybe have a showcase of the computer programs used, introduce the engineers who developed the computer program, interview them. All kids of things! And then maybe, if there's time, you could maybe even show some football.

...for comparison, below are the "numbers" for the opening round of playoffs in Missouri.  Results of the seedings were much more predictable there, ie 88% of higher seeds won versus 66% of higher seeds won in Florida.  Florida first round results are as follows:

  • Teams with the higher seed were 66-34. (Losers-#1(1), #2(4), #3(11), #4(18))
  • There were 12 shutouts out of 100 games.
  • 1 of 18 #1 vs #8 matchups were within 14 points.

Missouri District openers by the numbers

  • Teams with the higher seed were 130-18
  • There were 28 shutouts out of 148 games (18.9 percent)
  • Only two No. 1 vs. No. 8 matchups were within 12 points

No. 1 vs. No. 8 records (total score)

  • Class 1: 8-0 (374-67)
  • Class 2: 8-0 (501-40)
  • Class 3: 8-0 (330-33) *two forfeits
  • Class 4: 8-0 (421-75)
  • Class 5: Byes
  • Class 6: 4-0 (177-41)

No. 2 vs. No. 7 records (total score)

  • Class 1: 8-0 (371-120)
  • Class 2: 8-0 (381-96)
  • Class 3: 8-0 (432-90)
  • Class 4: 8-0 (379-122)
  • Class 5: Byes
  • Class 6: 3-1 (161-68)

No. 3 vs. No. 4 records (total score)

  • Class 1: 7-1 (321-174)
  • Class 2: 8-0 (334-59)
  • Class 3: 7-1 (281-110)
  • Class 4: 7-1 (310-110)
  • Class 5: 2-0 (79-28)
  • Class 6: 4-0 (144-37)

No. 4 vs. No. 5 records (total score)

  • Class 1: 5-3 (212-195)
  • Class 2: 7-1 (345-110)
  • Class 3: 4-4 (203-177)
  • Class 4: 4-4 (252-202)

    • Okay, how about that STA vs. Ida Baker matchup in your first round?  Does your analogy extend to South Florida slappies?  My opinion is simply that no one (except CoachGraham, apparently) would be interested in the 1 vs. 512, 2 vs. 511, and 200 other mismatches such a format would produce, regardless of geography.  But I could be wrong.  And now I'm thinking I should have skipped college.
    • Complaining about North Florida slappies losing to South Florida powers is like someone graduating high school complaining that companies are only hiring college graduates and not them. And then a company saying ok to make it fair, we will open division and only hire high school graduates.
    • First I want to express my apologies for my absence the last few months. Without going into much detail I have had some personal life struggles I have been dealing with on top of figuring out the direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com in. Things have finally settled out some over the last few weeks although I am not completely out of the woods just yet. Some of the decisions about what direction to take FloridaHSFootball.com have been forming over this time while I went through things. Part of me wondered if it was time to go, but really it is not at all. Thankfully, a loyal supporter near me in Gainesville decided to put their mouth where their money is and did a little investing and today FloridaHSFootball.com launched its first-ever Mobile App. With that said it comes with the sunset of the MVP Membership Subscriptions and thus FloridaHSFootball.com will be 100% free for the first time in a while. This comes as needing to get the clearances with Apple and Google and the current subscription platform we have is not syncing with Apple's system nor with the App itself. Its best we go in this direction to grow fans again and being able to put them facing forward with an app on their phone going forward. Here are the download links for the apps: iOS (Apple): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/floridahsfootball-com/id6477621728 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floridahsfootball.app&hl=en_US&gl=US   For now the forums will not be available directly in the app. At some point I maybe looking at changing the whole forum software that could eventually integrate into the app. It will be a while before this happens so things will go on as they are here.   I also apologize for any of the spam and troll accounts that have managed to find their way around the security protocols in setting up new accounts. It seems every day these things find ways to pass through control systems. I am going to be looking at getting this solved and will keep an eye on things here as we go along.   Please feel free to reach out to me if you all need anything, want to chat or have any suggestions.   -- Josh
