7A Reclass Summary of Changes

Recommended Posts

7A BIG PICTURE
  • In terms of big guns, 7A lost a number of very good teams, but gained a bunch, too.  7A appears to have gotten stronger with the changes.
  • 7A lost the following teams to other classes: Bartram Trail, Braden River, Columbia, Lee, Plant
  • 7A gained the following teams from other classes: Armwood, Atlantic, Crestview, Manatee, Miramar, Navarre, Niceville, Plantation, Wekiva
  • 7A Region 2 and Region 4 had some positive net gains, shedding a number of weaker programs and picking up some interesting ones.

playoff teams from each region(from this past season) who moved out:

7A Region 1-Columbia, Hagerty, Lee, Oakleaf
7A Region 2-Gaither, Plant, Sickles
7A Region 3-Bloomingdale, Braden River, Palmetto, Plant City, Tampa Bay Tech
7A Region 4-Dwyer, Palm Beach Lakes, West Broward

Armwood moving into Region 2 sets up a potential clash with Lakeland and/or Viera each year.  Had Plant not moved, this could have been an epic region, but maybe it's best they did move in the spirit of class parity.  Even so, Armwood will likely have a tougher path to the state final final.

Dwyer's path to a region title just got easier.  Now they will likely have to face Manatee or Venice in Region 3, rather than St Thomas Aquinas.  Life for Venice now may be a bit more challenging with the addition of Manatee and Dwyer.  In terms of depth, Region 3 is scant overall.

St Thomas' path out of Region 4 got tougher, with the additon of a number of formidable foes, although they did lose nemesis Dwyer in the region.  In terms of depth, 7A Region 4 was arguably one of the worst of the upper classes.  This region should be more competitive now with a number of perennial contenders joining the mix.
