Why Are So Many Kids Flocking to These Positions?

Breakdown below by position of Florida's Top 200 seniors.    A disproportionate number of wide receivers and defensive ends end up transferring each year.  Do we just have too much competition at these positions among the better programs such that some kids feel a need to transfer?

How about beefing up some of those DB's and turning them into defensive tackles or offensive linemen?:)  Or how about taking some of those wannabe wide receivers and turning them into quarterbacks, a position where we are really lacking talent at a state level?:)

IMO, the state is overrun with quality db's and wide receivers. Not that this is a bad problem to have, but it may be if that comes at the expense of other positions lagging as a result.  Sorry, kids, not everyone gets to play the position they want, especially at the higher levels.  In fact, a kid might actually have a better shot at getting a college scholarship by focusing on another position.

Opinions?

Wide receivers-32

Offensive linemen-26

Linebackers-25

Cornerback-24

Running backs-24

Defensive ends-20

Safety-17

Defensive tackle-12

Quarterbacks-9

Tight end-9

Note: These numbers only add up to 198 and I am too lazy to recount. LOL

Go to any opening day of youth league (or Freshman ) practice and watch the coaches.  The HC will say to his group:  'Anyone who wants to be a wide receiver....go over to Coach so and so.  Anyone who wants to be a running back....go over to Coach so and so...   Anyone who wants to be a QB.....go over to Coach so and so.  Anyone who wants to play defense....Go over to Coach so and so...   The Offensive Linemen group rarely has anyone left, or it s by far the smallest group.

I place the blame on the weight controlled football leagues around the country.  The big kids often are too heavy to play youth league football, and many can't start playing until they are a Freshman in HS.  By this time, it is often too late or the players are way behind the learning curve already.  My experience says that the big boys really don't start coming into their own until their junior or senior years.
