Below is a list of 25 coaches who have spent 10 or more years at their current school.  The list got smaller this year as Chris Merritt(Columbus), Joe Zaccheo(Monsignor Pace) and Rick Darlington(Apopka) all retired or moved on.  And Phil Ziglar, coaching legend at Boone, has hung up his whistle at Hagerty.

  • Lakeland-Bill Castle-43 seasons-7 state titles
  • Trinity Christian-Verlon Dorminey-28 seasons-7 state titles
  • Hillsborough-Earl Garcia-26 seasons-1 state final appearance
  • Dwyer-Jack Daniels-23 seasons-2 state titles
  • Palm Bay-Dan Burke-23 seasons-2 state titles
  • First Coast-Marty Lee-22 seasons-1 state title appearance
  • Naples-Bill Kramer-21 seasons-2 state titles
  • Charlotte-Binky Waldrop-20 seasons
  • Bartram Trail-Darrell Sutherland-19 seasons-1 state title appearance
  • Niceville-John Hicks-18 seasons-2 state final appearances
  • Timber Creek-Jim Buckridge-18 seasons
  • Bishop Moore-Matt Hedrick-17 seasons-1 state title
  • Fort Myers-Sam Sirianni Jr-17 seasons
  • Sandalwood-Adam Geis-17 seasons
  • Durant-Mike Gottman-16 seasons
  • Plant-Robert Weiner-15 seasons-4 state titles
  • Lake Mary-Scott Perry-14 seasons
  • Wharton-David Mitchell-14 seasons
  • Plantation-Steve Davis-13 seasons
  • Wakulla-Scott Klees-13 seasons-2 state title appearances
  • Winter Park-Tim Shifflet-13 seasons
  • Brian Dodds-Park Vista-12 seasons
  • Berkely Prep-Dominic Ciao-12 seasons
  • Booker T Washington/Miami-Tim Harris-11 seasons-3 state titles
  • Norland-Daryle Heidelburg-10 seasons-1 state title

Over the past 20 years, over 100 FL HS coaches with 10 or more years at a program retired or moved on.  Thus, we are losing a tremendous amount of coaching experience and knowledge.

Not worth the time or energy. Expectations are way too high by students, parents, and community members.

Every kid is a D1 athlete and every team is state championship caliber according to many.

Well said. Not all but some could careless if a coach has integrity and teaches core values and how to be a man in today's world. Some only care if they get to go on social media and say "blessed to receive....."

To be clear, those type of parents and players is a small fraction of most. I love what I do because the majority still respect others that put forth the effort to change lives. The world may be changing but there is still more good than bad.
