William "Tra" Thomas played football and basketball at Deland High and is regarded as one of the best offensive lineman to come out of Volusia County. DeLand High inducted Thomas into its athletics hall of fame in 2008.  While at FSU, Thomas earned AP All-American second team honors as a senior. The Philadelphia Eagles selected Thomas with the No. 11 pick in the 1998 draft, and he became a mainstay at left tackle. Thomas started 166 games, made three Pro Bowls and was once named All-Pro. Thomas is regarded as one of the best tackles ever to play for the Eagles.  He spent a year in Jacksonville (2009), underwent knee surgery the following summer in San Diego and retired in 2012.  Thomas and his wife, Rosa, are franchise owners of Pinot’s Palette, a painting studio which serves wine, in Cherry Hill, N.J.
