Famous Father & Son Coaches/Dub & John Palmer

These two coaches were the first father and son to ever win FHSAA state football titles as head coaches.  Who are they and at what school did each win a state title?

Dub Palmer, won a title at Wildwood I believe. His son John Palmer has won 2 at Port St Joe (05? 14).

No state championship but in my opinion doesn't take away from the fact  this father-son duo were great coaches - Sam Sirianni Sr & Sam Sirianni Jr.  - combined 60 years at Fort Myers High and every year a winning team.

Dub Palmer and his son John are the only father-son combination to be in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame (1984, 2011), the first father-son combination to win FHSAA State Championships in football (1970, 2005) and the first father-son combination to win 100-plus FHSAA football games. 

John Palmer won two 1A state championships at Port St Joe as well as a runner-up finish.  

Dub Palmer went 232-69-9 in 33 years as a head football coach, placing in the Top-20 all-time in wins in the Sunshine State. Starting as a 19-year-old head coach at Wildwood High School in 1943, Palmer was the youngest head coach in the history of Florida high school football. In his entire career, the Plant City High School graduate never coached a losing season.

He won five total state championships, one with the FHSAA in 1970 at Wildwood and four more before there was a state playoff system (WHS in 1950; Pompano Beach High School in 1958 and 1959 and Eustis High School in 1963). On top of the that, he also guided his teams to 14 conference championships in football. Football wasn’t the only sport he was blessed to coach, as he led Gainesville High School to their first two state championships in boys golf in 1954 and 1955.
