The colonels has always been a well respected program under Davis; after a year off and a horrendous year for plantation Davis came back last year and the colonels went on to a 10-2 season.

Now back in the district with STA can the colonels under davis dethrone the raiders???

The short answer is no. The Raiders will have a rematch with the Dreadnaughts in the 2019 title game.

You think so ? You see no potential team that can beat the raiders if they get em at home.

On any given night, any team can lose, and it's not a given that St. Thomas goes 14-0 going into the finals. However, I don't see any 7A team coming out of Regions 3 or 4 that are going to stop St. Thomas from playing in Daytona in December.

Now Lakeland has gotten a ton of transfers and returns their big running back, so I think the title game will probably be very competitive. A true North bracket "dark horse" could be Edgewater. But they will need some luck to take down Lakeland.

If Lakeland got even better from last year and they blasted Sta last year if they do meet what will stop the result from being the same or worst.

I am not sure if they got better as last year they were senior heavy. What they have done is replace a lot of the graduating class with transfers within Polk County (mainly). So, I am thinking they will be about the same as last year.

Now to answer your question: although they beat St. Thomas by 19 points last year, I don't think they were 19 points better as they benefited from some critical St. Thomas errors including two missed field goals. They also had two really big plays, a 99 yard kickoff return and a huge pass play on third and 25 that ended in a touchdown. Take away those big plays and the missed points by St. Thomas, and the game would have been a tossup.

One of the major things did sta in last year was QB play and going into this year their QB status is still up in the air.

It has been awhile since St. Thomas had a really good QB. But they have so much depth at the other positions, that they usually find a way to just wear down most opponents even if they were as talented as them. I realize they may be still be in a QB bind this year, and that could be the difference if we get STA Lakeland II.

We can't be sure of any of this until we get to August and see the teams on the field. But, the idea that Plantation-or any other team in 7A South (save, maybe, for Venice)- can hang with STA is laughable at the moment.  Expect STA to roll to Daytona until we see something we haven't seen in a while to indicate another possible outcome.

I think both Armwood and Edgewater are very real threats to Lakeland. It does look like the Naughts might be as good or better than the 2018 team, which was IMO their best ever team. But, with all of the new parts, and all of the players who were expecting to start/star that now may not be playing much, team chemistry will be a question heading into the season. If those questions are answered and they do have all the players they look like they'll have, they'll probably march to Daytona and should be the favorites over STA.

Agree but sta didnt even roll through south Florida last year ..they had a few double digit blow outs last year.

What? They put a running clock on every team they played from South Florida except for Central, who they led after 3 quarters. And Central was not and is not in 7A, which was what you mentioned in the original post.

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
