The same thing apparently is happening in Lee County. 

FHSAA put out a statement earlier today.   In short, they said, hey, budgets are set for this year; let's have a discussion about this as part of the planning process for next year and beyond. 

 

By the way, I can't read the article.  I don't subscribe to out-of-town newspapers in hopes that I might want to read an online article one or twice a year.

I know it's the best opportunity for the refs, because they have the leverage...but for a fan of HS Football...DON'T DO IT!

They are asking for $10 more  per game for 8 officials a game for maybe 5 varsity and 4 JV home games per school? So $720 for the year per school? If our counties can't afford that, please shutter the programs.

Palm Beach County does not fund athletics.  We pay for everything as a program.  And there is more than just the 10.00.  They want it to go up to 100 next year.  Broward has already agreed to a deal with the officials, Palm Beach will follow suit, so we will at least have our kickoff classics.

I will always believe that school districts should fund the basics of extra curriculars. Uniforms, common sense travel, referees, playing fields, equipment, and security. If not, don't offer the sport.

Finding good young quality men and women who are willing to put the time and effort in to be an official is huge problem right now in the state of Florida. There is a shortage of officials across all sports in high school. The problem is very acute in football however.

there are only 5 refs in high school. $50 per game they would need total. take it out of the gate fees if budget is done I say...

This is not an issue of whether or not the coaches will pay, but more of a power play.  The coaches will pay.

Both sides came to an agreement the refs will get thier $10 raises.
