Greatest Playoff Meltdowns - Glades Central vs Lake Wales

These are highlights of Lake Wales' great 1993 season...the first season they appeared in a state title game.  Highlights of the state semi game they hosted versus Glades Central can be found at 14:00 of the video.  The Raiders featured Fred Taylor (#21), one of the most highly recruited running backs in the country in '93, his senior year.  That year Taylor rushed for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns.  He was also an outstanding sprinter. 

Taylor was running wild in Lake Wales and the Raiders were up 35-14 by halftime.  Taylor got knocked out of that game by a brutal hit and the Raiders experienced a total meltdown in the second half.  2 years earlier, Haines City hosted the Raiders in a state semi and knocked them out of the playoffs.  So, there is some history between Polk County and the Muck.

Unfortunately for the Highlanders, they came up short in the final versus a tough Bolles team...the third Bolles team to win a state title.

I think the GC coach was fired IMMEDIATELY after the game, and not allowed to ride the bus home with the team.
