My thoughts on Columbia vs Colquitt

First of all Colquitt County brought exactly what i expected, a tough team who will bang with anyone they go up against

Despite the close loss I was very impressed with a lot of what I saw with Columbia

Columbia showed flashes of a balanced attack and did get some running yards at times against Colquitt but also have work to do as they were stopped quite a bit behind line as well, the QB for Columbia Jordan Smith looked very good for the most part and seemed to make smart decisions with passing and not taking unnecessary risks

Columbia did have 7 starters sitting out with injuries to keep them healthy for the game next week against TCA, so considering that i was impressed that Columbia was able to hold up against Colquitt blow for blow for most of the game and from what I've read, several Colquitt fans earned a measure of respect for Columbia which is touching because they are one of toughest and best teams in all of GA so that don't come easy

Columbia still has to improve as season moves along on OL and we need to get better at stopping the run but overall they showed flashes of a team capable of competing and winning their region

As for Colquitt I was very impressed with the RB they had, he must have had at least 150 yards in the game and was tough to bring down

Overall a very good game to watch even with the light rain and I hope that this becomes a regular season game in near future

Their fans seem to think that they will play at least 8 teams better than Columbia this year. I told my buddy that it’s more like 4.

I hope it becomes an every year type deal.

That was one fan I saw say that

Most the Colquitt fans were talking highly of us

The running back is Daijun Edwards, a four star who received an offer from Kirby Smart in the NINTH grade! Although he didn't play football in the eighth grade, due to growth plate issues, where the muscle grows faster than the bone structure! He had to have surgery that year to rectify the problem. But is back in form, as one the top backs in not only Georgia, but America! Barring injury this season, he will break the all time rushing record for the Packers! And we've had three All Americans in the past, plus two Georgia Offensive Players of the Year!

But good news for those not named UGA! Kirby has a glut of current talent at RB! So Daijun has opened up his recruiting to other Power Five schools, including Auburn and FSU, where those two will already have two players on their rosters from Colquitt, in 2020!

Don't tell Trinity BUT, Colquitt ran pretty much a vanilla offense Friddie nite! One target to the Power Five TE, one to the Power Five RB, and ten carries by a back who usually has twenty or more! THAT, plus we only threw the ball about fifteen times! Normal play calling is thirty or more! They usually run Wild Hog with an unbalanced line and two blockers in the backfield. The Wild Hog with a slot receiver in a speed sweep. And the QB throwing out of the Wild Hog. THAT, plus three wides into the formation, and a full house backfield with a FB. Plus swing passes to Daijun! And lets not forget the Tunnel Screen and the screen with two blockers into the formation! In a word, HOG AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
    • As a general rule, I am not a big supporter of unions in the public sector in particular.  They certainly had a place in the private sector during the industrialization of our nation, but today not so much.  I have no first-hand experience with unions representing our local law enforcement or firefighters but my interaction with the teachers union over several years in that profession is the basis of my opinion.
