Wait has this happened before?

Apparently.  This article gives more of a bio:

Ini  2004-5, he had 7-13 record as head coach at Rickards.    Later, he was the HC at an Alabama high school (Hillcrest-Evergreen) that went 8-32.  Most recently, in 2017, he "lead" Tanner High to a 3-8 record.  It appears to be a combination of an abrasive personality, a poor performance by his teams on the field, and his habit of leaving when the going gets tough.

Wow I'm surprised a coach with those numbers could keep getting the head job

I figured he would have to settle for a coordinator position by now

Lely High School also had an issue with the guy and he was gone after a year there.

Dictator is what I’ve been hearing to describe him. Can’t have morning practice and then hold kids after school 4 hours.

If that's true than it's clear there was a lot of reasons these players wanted him gone and I can't exactly blame them

If I was Belser I wouldn't want to coach at Trenton either. Sounds like a bunch of out of control players and the parents that support these undisciplined players. The Staff at that school sounds like a bunch of politically correct cowards that go along to get along. I have a feeling that a lot of this is going on at other Florida schools. You can't run a HS football program without discipline. You lose discipline and you lose games because of it. These days I guess discipline is considered something that only happened in the stone age. <_<

Not Trenton, Taylor County.

There’s a difference between discipline and dictatorship, often times there’s a very fine line you can’t cross. If kids don’t want to come to school, then shouldn’t be playing sports. If kids aren’t at school all day because they are taking college classes but will be there for practice, then that should be encouraged. When you’ve been accused of this at every stop of the way, it’s not the kids or parents...it’s you.

I agree

And considering how stupid this state is at running education it makes sense that players and other high schoolers would do duel enrollment instead of forcing themselves into debt, it's called building for a future

Considering how this state would rather ass kiss a sports academy than actually support the public schools

When you are 79 call me. We old timers do make mistakes once in awhile. Of course I meant Taylor. But, Trenton is always on my mind as the Celtics coach used to be the coach of Trenton where he was very successful. Need him to continue his success story with TC. B)

I can see Trinity Catholic getting better under him

Changing world we live in. The school, community,  and message boards like this focus so much on "winning" that coaches feel the need to implement over the top training programs to try and only have super dedicated kids to the program. Neither the kids story nor his make feel like there are any real winners in this situation.
6:30 AM practice for a specific amount of time (assuming weightlifting/conditioning/film)
8:20 AM class until 3:00 PM
3:30 PM until 6:30 PM for practice.
If you assume 30 minute travel from school to home, 45 minutes for shower and dinner, and 8 hours sleep that is maybe 2 hours for homework, work, volunteer, church, and just being a normal teen. When exactly were they supposed to be students?

I will never understand the idea of mandatory summer practice. I think coaches should be fired for even suggesting the idea.  I believe in positive reinforcement for coming to summer practice, not that you are off the team before the season even starts because you didn't come to summer practice. The article also makes me hate colleges/universities that would show interest in a kid with 22 ACT when I know kids with the same GPA and 32/33/34s ACT who the listed universities would never even look at students. I get that as athletes, academic credentials might be lower but that isn't even in the same ball park as what those schools require.

They used to require management classes in college and one of the things they will tell you is you don't try to change the culture overnight. You focus on 1 or 2 things that you are not willing to bend on. Maybe it was morning practices. Maybe it was study hall, but you don't try to overhaul everything in the first month on the job otherwise you get rebellion. Too many changes, too fast. This is the problem, we expect a win now mentality when we don't understand that improvement takes time to build. In looking at the record of Taylor County over the past 10 years, they look like a solid program with an occasional down year. So it is not like Taylor County was this lawless, winless program, but a decent program. Build on that without saying everything you did before sucked. Players have gold fish memories. After 1 year 2 years nobody will remember the old ways. So make small changes.

I look at the kicker/pre-game meal situation as the coach screwing up. It would have been faster for the kid to run out his mom's car, grab the shoes, and be back in the cafeteria than the time the coach spent talking to him.

I understand the being set in your ways part and instilling discipline into a new program because it obviously sounds like it was needed. But if kids are in college classes and have work, it's on the coach to adjust his schedule - not on the kids. Some kids need work to help pay bills, buy food, etc at home. To tell a kid who may be in that situation to make a choice is absurd. I'm not saying that was the case, but I've been coaching long enough to know that some kids are in that situation.

As for the kicker and "giving him a choice," that seems a lot like the guy just being a jerk. He's not coaching in some D-1, FBS powerhouse. He's working with a high school kid who forgot his cleats. To tell him he can get the cleats but not play or leave is just petty.

    • I was actually itching to treat some wager some money on some sports matches that are happening above-board now. I wanted to let you guys identify that I did spot what I ruminate on to be the kindest site in the USA. If you fall short of to get in on the spirit, check it out-moded: https://pokeronline.guru/online-gambling/
    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
