Can someone please explain to me why a player would ever take a swing at the face/head of an opposing player while the opposing player has his helmet on?  It happened in one of the pro games yesterday and apparently happened in one of the Tampa Bay high school games Saturday night.   

I get hormones, testosterone, heat of the moment, excitement, frustration, and downright anger.  What I don't get is taking a bare hand and swinging it at the face or head of somebody else who's face and head are guarded by bars and a shell made out of really hard materials.  Has anyone ever seen this end well for the kid throwing the punch?
