Plant Panthers Miss Playoffs

guys, we're splitting hairs. The team with the better record got in. I think plant would probably trounce Nona going head to head, but it doesn't matter. Something has to be a determining factor in situations like this. That's why this whole RPI system is a complete joke. There are too many factors that really don't make a bit of difference. The way to fix the system, once and for all, as I've said for years, and years, and years, is to have 8-team districts across the board.  This fixes everything. and the district's, well largely geographic, wouldn't only have to be geographic. if the FHSAA does not want to put Miami Central, Miami Carol City and Miami northwestern in the same district, for example, then they can spread them out in the region.

The good thing is, that this would also result in less classes. But this makes far too much sense, so the FHSAA would never consider it. Because they want those meaningless first-round games in eight separate classes, 3/4 of which don't mean a damn thing

Other than to the kids playing in them....

If that was so why haven't they tried increasing classifications more if goal was just to get more playoff games

Also why drop 2 classes in over 50% of sports this past off-season?

LOL, NE as in Northeast

Peezy, explain how this would have worked?  How would taking a forfeit loss improve Northeast's chances of making the playoffs over an on-the-field loss to Countryside?  A loss is a loss, right?  Margin of victory is irrelevant.  If they play the game, NE has a puncher's chance to win; if they don't show up, they're guaranteed a loss.  Why not play the game?

I assume he meant cancellation and not forfeiture.

Serious question:  what's the difference?   If you call the day before and say you're not coming, that makes it a cancellation, but if you simply don't show up on game day, that makes it a forfeit?

Who cancelled the game?  Northeast or Countryside?  Was it weather related?

Yeah, I get that. I was pissed when Robinson missed playoffs last year to Jefferson despite beating them head to head and having the same record. Son's team missed out on playoffs. In retrospect, all they had to do was beat a lousy Middleton team and they blew it. So while I agree RPI has had dumb results, we are stuck with this shit until enough people make a fuss.

In Northeast's case, at least according to MaxPreps, the game is shown as a "forfeit."  Is there a way Northeast could have made it a 'cancellation' instead?

I didn't look into the specifics of that match-up or those teams, just pointing out the distinction between the two (cancellation v forfeiture).  Example, many games over the past couple years have been cancelled due to weather/hurricanes and not made up because they were not district games.  That doesn't affect a teams playoff chances (providing they still meet the minimum games criteria) but a forfeited game (used ineligible players, chose to end their season i.e. Gulf HS from this season, etc.) does affect each team's W/L record and therefore their RPI.

This is a phone call you have to hear it to believe it.
