Hillsborough County just destroyed Brevard County

Rockledge had a few injured players, but I'm still surprised they lost... not an excuse but Smith and Tennison are the real power of that team. Smith was injured in a very physical Cocoa-Rockledge rival game last week. Not sure if he played or was 100%. But more than a few players for both teams were in pain at the end the game. Cocoa drops a pass in the endzone on 4th down for the tie with 25 seconds left. That's how close the game was.

Rockledge losing was unexpected. If they over looked Chamberlain then they deserve to lose.

Would be interested in seeing the stats of that game.

My 2 cents... Brevard has some great athletes. Never think they are an easy win.

2 out of 5 from Brevard still in. Lets see how Holy Trinity and Cocoa do next week.

Out are Viera, Eau Gallie, and Rockledge.

Brevard isn’t good at football. They had to stack players all on one or two teams to compete and since the guys who did that (Wilk and Mays) are gone, now you see what they are really about.

Brevard is overrated as hell and it showed

Brevard has had a lot of teams in the finals and won a lot of championships. Not sure why you are so anti Brevard. And trust me... It shows.

What I noticed from Brevard since Wilk got to Cocoa was one one other than Cocoa was remotely good. From 2008 or so. And they weren’t really that good nationally or at the top of the state. Just good for their area. They were playing in the bush league classes when they were winning state. Playing slappies.

Then the flood gates opened and Brevard became the Wild West. With Mays at Viera, Cocoa and Stacy at Mel CC, they poached all the talent possible from Titusville, Melbourne, Astronaut, Holy Trinity etc etc.

And they still couldn’t field elite teams at the state level. They routinely got clubbed by the better teams. Even with Brevard County all star teams they still couldn’t compete on a national level or at the top of the state.

Brevard has some decent individual talent, but if everyone played in their zone you would have a lot of mediocrity all over, and no one even close to sniff a title.

Brevard is just overrated and just because they have a lot of forum posters on message boards those won’t change one iota

With the exception of Dade County, the above could be said of pretty much every other area of the state including all the large, metro areas. In Dade, the Northwest corner of the county would always produce a few statewide and often nationally competitive teams. You cannot say the same for Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale, though in the case of FTL, the reason has as much to do with St. Thomas, American Heritage and more recently Cardinal Gibbons, and to a lesser degree Chaminade.

Brevard usually always has 2 decent to good teams that were able to compete regionally and breakthrough the state level. From the 80s till now. Brevard has and will always have a respected team or 2. Whether it was melbourne, Titusville or Merritt Island. To Palm Bay and Rockledge. Now its Cocoa, Rockledge and Viera. Heck even Bayside made some noise my junior and senior year. Giving Manatee a game in the playoffs.

National rankings speak a different story. Thank God no one looks at the Nolebull poll. They do that one at the Slurpee King. Cocoa national ranking in 08,  09, 10, 16 was Top 50 in country, twice in Top 25.

Cocoa had double digit transfers almost every year. And they still got smoked out of state annually, and sometimes to inferior teams.

Brevard was a transfer factory with a few teams poaching all the talent in the county. That doesn’t show signs of strength, quality and depth. It shows the opposite. They can’t compete on a state level without stealing all their neighbors best players.

I admitted Brevard had some good teams over the years. But that was because they were transfer county all star teams.

You can’t prove otherwise

08-10 Cocoa really didn't have any transfers.  Pretty all homegrown. Yes I admit there last state team did have plenty of transfers from Heritage. But a lot of the transfers Cocoa did get transferred out of Cocoa and transferred back. Or were originally zoned for Cocoa to begin with. But in Cocoa's run in the playoffs over the past decade they've loss to BTW and Raines. Their 1st state game against Raines they literally dropped the ball by not making adjustments. All the years they lost to BTW , many considered those semis as the actual state game.

This season in Brevard players from palm bay transferred to Rockledge after Dan Burke retired. MCC OC took over at Palm Bay...Hence all the MCC offensive playmakers transferring to Palm Bay.

And how did that make them any different than your beloved "national" academies?

You can add BTW national champion team to the list as well. Also Cocoa should've went into halftime leading Gorman.

    • Just wait till spring is over and the top RB in the area will take his talent to 1 Indian Ave.
    • This will be an interesting story to follow.  Venice has no proven RB headed in to spring which will be a first for a long time.  They have produced several Dairy Farmers player of the years in that position.  They also will have a massive offensive line with 2 three year starters who return as well as some stud young kids.  They will probably average around 6'4 295 on the line which is huge for Venice standards.  I just wonder if this will change before the start of the season.  I still fell like someone will show up.
    • Are you still talking to me??  Thought I was pretty clear for you not to waste your breath on this subject matter, but somehow you are missing the point.  Teacher unions have limited power in FL because the candidates they overwhelming support keep losing.  If they had won, the teacher union vote had a lot to do with it and would be wielding that power.  Osceola county which isn't a GOP stronghold during the past two national elections had the journalism students for the OHS monthly newsletter (Kowboy Jake) interview the faculty as to their political leanings.  A sample of about 30 teachers that were interviewed were voting as follows:  25 D vs 5 R.  Enough said.
    • You missed the point of my union post. Teacher unions in strong union states have power. Florida unions have zero. They cant strike and the school board can implement a contract without the unions approval. Florida unions are not preventing any raise in Florida. The state has attacked a straw man here.
