The argument about the panhandle isn’t a population center holds no water, that’s why we have regions.  Each region should host on a rotating basis

You think money (gate receipts, hotels, etc.) does not play an important role in site determination? If so, you are incredibly naive.

It plays a huge part but that doesn’t drive hosting in one location.   I’ve seen the crowds that south/ central Florida teams bring to Orlando for the state championship game.  Embarrassing small crowds considering the closeness.   Why should the burden of travel be placed on certain sections of the state year in an year out?   Gate receipts isn’t the answer.  If I had my choice panhandle would compete with Alabama or Georgia schools.  Birmingham and Montgomery are much easier travel locations.

Geographically, that would actually make more sense (more for Alabama than Georgia as in the playoffs you would have to deal with Atlanta teams which are pretty far away). But it is very unlikely that that will ever happen.

Any team who makes the loooong trip from this side of the state to the panhandle or vice versa and actually wins gets an extra tip of the cap from me.  It is grueling to say the least.

Absolutely

I just want everyone to have the opportunity to make that drive from south of Orlando back to Niceville after a game.  That sort of misery deserves lots of company.   The argument about the panhandle isn’t a population center holds no water, that’s why we have regions.  Each region should host on a rotating basis.

I'd be interested to see an analysis of the attendance figures at the various sites over the years. How was attendance when it was in Tallahasee? Ft. Lauderdale? etc

I do agree that, in the name of fairness, it should be rotated. And that wouldn't even necessarily hurt attendance. People may look forward to traveling to less familiar locations. And the host communities would be more excited to host/attend when it is a relatively rare occurrence. Orlando makes the most sense geographically and with Disney etc. But, if it doesn't work there, might as well spread it around!

Miami was helped in 2005 and 2006 by having local powers make the Finals (and a couple of showdowns between nationally ranked teams). But, teams from that area tend to make it most every year anyway. So, if attendance is the goal, Dade/Broward is likely the best bet. Of course, it isn't the fairest bet for finals catering to the entire state...

That about sums it up. The state is probably just too big. Maybe going to a California type situation would be the solution.
