State of Florida Football

First, let me congratulate all of the kids that have earned the opportunity to play in state championship games. I see as much talent as ever in today’s game. And I see a lot of dang good HS football players.

However, I am seeing some of the worst football I’ve ever seen here in the state. Teams are making the state championship game that I truly believe 10 years ago would’ve been 2nd round exit type teams. Penalties seem to be at an all time high, tackling an all time low, and a lack of fundamentals from top to bottom. Basic offensive and defensive schemes. And we simply have too many classifications.

Am I totally off base or am I onto something? If I’m onto something, what do you think could be done to remedy the situation?

So is your mom but we don’t talk bad about her. Maybe Baker and Blountstown are what 1A teams should be and Madison should be 3A or 4A

Shut up Madison been 2a, not that big of a difference. Idiot Baker is not good, you don't watch them play. I do blountstown almost lost to Taylor county, they were 3a for a long time and sucked. They 1a now. Madison just works hard, champions do that in this state idiot. They don't play easy teams and cheat. Stop saying Madison needs to go. Tell teams to up they game. But you crying like a baby,

There aren't a lot of really good programs and coaches. There is the talent consolidation trend. Some teams aren't coached very well but are loaded in enough talent to beat the other teams with limited talent. Many of the best coaches (see Rick Darlington for example) who are in areas where they see good players being poached away simply leave.

That said, the appreciation for the basics and fundamentals is eroding all over the place. As is the appreciation of complexity and originality in scheme design. Seems like most everyone runs the exact same schemes. Meh.

No I'm not crying at all.   Madison County has a great program and a great man as a head coach.   Lots of good things are done with Madison county football and you are not one of them. You are not a good representation of Madison County.  All you do is try and put teams down.  I'm 100% sure your coach would be embarrassed to be associated with you.  Stop running your mouth about other teams.

Unfortunately some of the best, most detailed coaches are currently at programs that don't have the athletes to compete for States. Some of the programs you see competing for States don't have the greatest coaches on their staff, they have great recruiters. They bring in enough kids every year to compete at a high level.

As far as creativity in scheme is concerned...I don't necessarily agree with that. I saw some of everything this playoff season. Spread RPO offenses, power running schemes, Odd front defenses, Even front defenses, Cover-4 schemes, Cover-3 schemes, etc.

Football is a fad sport anyway. Every few years some new scheme becomes hot and everybody wants to run it. We've seen it in college and the NFL. The schemes are even less diverse on those levels than they are on High School.

    • Perhaps the best RB in Tampa Bay iin 2023 saw his program close, and is looking for a home. If he stays in the area,Venice is a good bet. (Lakeland may be as well).
    • And if that same newsletter asked the Osceola County Sheriff Department, what do you think the response would be? If you asked, members of the Chamber of Commerce? (Essentially a union of businesses) If you asked a group of nurses? If you asked a group of lawyers? Also a union cares about the working conditions of their members, but the working conditions of teachers are the learning conditions of students as well. People are attracted to careers because of the values that come with those careers. Political Parties attract people based on their values. So it shouldn't be surprising that certain professions attract certain people in certain careers. You act as if the principal's first question when we have a 5,000+ teachers shortage in this state is "who do you vote for? And are you a member of the union?"
    • I feel like y'all are always solid so I don't see y'all going no worse than 7-3. Biggest question mark for Cocoa is their O-line since they are only returning 1 and on the defensive side they only return their blue chip edge in their front 7
    • Coach Wiseman, let me just preface this by saying that you were the best HC Sarasota's program has had in the last 20+ years. You brought them from being a perpetual losing program to the doorstep of competing with Venice for a district title and a deep playoff run. SHS will curse the day they fired you now that they are back in a rut. You are a true class act, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.  Our backfield is certainly sparse right now. We do have Dorian Jones, a rising sophomore runningback whom did considerably well considering his limited playing time last season. Our offense will need an overhaul with the graduation of 3 offensive linemen and almost our entire receiving corps. Our defensive line will be strong with the return of Ke'shawn Vaughn, Elijah Jones, and Asharri Charles. Our linebacking corps graduates virtually everybody but should have at least one bright spot with the return of Ben Zarkawiecz. Our defensive backfield is still a work in progress with the graduation of Lester and Platt. At the moment, we have more question marks than exclamation points. And that's not a good feeling with the kind of competition Venice is going to face.
    • It's possible that they find their stride by week 5, but at the moment we just don't have the on-paper talent to compete with teams like Miami NW, IMG National, Cocoa, or Bishop Verot. If Venice can find a way to go 7-3 with that schedule I would be happy
